Emory class of 2016 (2012-2013 cycle) Forum

I looked into the Law School Transparency profile, and apparently Emory has experienced an above-average drop in applicants and class size; thus, their median LSAT scores have somewhat softened. Their 2011 cycle 25th percentile LSAT was a 159, if I read the site's data correctly. Dim hope?

However, they have a "f*&^ you" attitude towards LSAT Score addendums, so the anxiety is restored.
I'm pretty sure I can write a bangin' "Why Emory" addendum though. Perhaps my ending salutation shall be something like: I don't normally write love letters to law schools, but when I do, they're to Emory. Followed by "desperate" written in seductive script.

Huh? I have no idea where you are getting your information from. Emory increased its class size from 246 to 253 last year while improving the 25% lsat to a 162? (or something like that too lazy to look up). There applications were down less than 1% last year and are down about 3% this year.

2nd on this. Their 2015 class profile looked far better than UGA's, especially.

I actually called today to find out where I can send an LOCI to and the admissions person decided to check my status to see if I even needed to send one. She said they had already mailed me their decision but would re-mail it and send me another copy via email right away. I was worried it would be a ding when I opened it but was so surprised by it.

Congrats! When did you apply? I haven't heard anything yet and I applied mid Dec. I'm thinking about calling.

Hi everyone – this is Ethan Rosenzweig, the dean of admission and financial aid at Emory Law. I will be posting a general admission update soon, but I wanted to send a quick note now regarding a technical issue I just learned about from the Law School Admission Council.

It appears that the application portal through LSAC’s website has suffered internet connectivity issues this week. As such, LSAC has asked us to extend our deadline to assist students who are having difficulties applying through http://www.lsac.org. Our priority deadline for the entering Fall 2013 class is now March 15th. As always, I encourage folks to submit their application as soon as possible as the admission committee is actively reviewing files.

(This situation reminds me of when I was filing a brief electronically back in my days as a law firm associate. The filing had to be uploaded to the clerk of court website by 11:59pm, and of course, at 11:15pm, our internet went down. Let’s just say I lost 7 pounds from sweating as I drove 20 miles to the nearest 24-hour Kinkos.)

Thanks again for allowing me to post in this forum. I will provide a more thorough admission update in a few days.

Anyone else waiting eagerly for this update?

still haven't heard anything.. out of curiosity, is it too soon to start sending an LOCI? or do you have to wait to be on the official waitlist to send this?

I sent one this week...submitted mid-Jan.

I did the same, since I visited a few weeks back and wanted to say how interested I was. Admissions emailed me back a black message. Funny, when I asked about hotels for the visit, I got a one liner with a URL. Whoever answers that account is not one for words!

Yes, I was not arguing that that was the data provided for 2014. The poster had discussed trends ("softening of medians") in Emory's class and the trends he had mentioned were not backed by the most recent data available.

Walt, you have a good shot with your gpa especially off the waitlist, 3.70 is generally the big split at ELS (so if your still in school make sure you have a good semester and keep it up). Emory accepted people into the first week of classes last year.

AH! Congrats on your admissions and scholarship! We essentially have the same numbers and applied around the same time. If you don't mind me asking, what school do you go to, I'm assuming University of Florida?

Thanks! I called today too and it really does help. They said my application was still in review so now I don't have to constantly check my mail for a while.

I remembered earlier today that Emory was the weird school that asked for 2 page PS's and 1 page resumes. And then I remembered that this was the hardest application to complete. Anyone else struggle with this?

No, my resume is already 1 page and my PS was like 2.2 pages.

Not at all. I mean i guess it would depend on your numbers..but based on your complete date I wouldn't say you're an auto ding. They didn't even start sending out decisions until February. I submitted in November and heard back like 2 weeks ago. If you consider some of the apparent delays involved with snail mail decisions, it's too soon to say you're a ding just based on your complete date alone.

Edit: Okay saw your numbers. I know you probably heard this before..but have you considered re-taking? A 3.92 with a better LSAT would open SOOO many doors.

Yep. And they stressed that going over would be a bad idea. Plus, I'm long winded as well get out.

Try cramming 8 years of work to go along with a bachelors and masters degree. I don't remember exactly but I may have kept it two pages.

That must have been horrible! I worked five different jobs in 2012 alone (two were full-time) and there was no way I was even able to fit three on the resume.
