Just got a scholarship, as well. April 1st is earlier than I expected to make my decision. I had been leaning heavily toward NYU, but GULC is pulling me back...

Re: In at GULC!
Does anyone know around what sorts of family income levels Gtown would maybe consider low enough to offer some need-based aid..It sucks because so many students are paying for grad school completely on their own, so I feel like family income shouldn't be considered so strongly in this type of aid...also could someone possibly post the type of email they sent to negotiate merit-based aid? thanks!!

did you get the scholarship e-mail in late feb? how long was the turnaround until you got your scholarship offer?crumpledq wrote:Just got a scholarship, as well. April 1st is earlier than I expected to make my decision. I had been leaning heavily toward NYU, but GULC is pulling me back...

Re: In at GULC!
Thank you! No, I didn't receive the scholarship email in February, which wasn't surprising given my super-splitterness. I sent an unsolicited email to let them know where else I'd been accepted and to ask whether I was under consideration for a scholarship. The turnaround between my email and the scholarship offer was four business days.JF215 wrote:did you get the scholarship e-mail in late feb? how long was the turnaround until you got your scholarship offer?crumpledq wrote:Just got a scholarship, as well. I went to the ASW in January and we had the option of staying with a current GULC student. I think they are mostly 1Ls. Mine lived off-campus and it was great to see different parts of DC.Liquox wrote:anyone know how ASW housing works?

Re: In at GULC!
blerg. so they told me I was up for merit scholarships, then I sent my whole email (which, in hindsight was a bit strongly worded... I think I overplayed my hand) then they said of course I'll be considered.... then on 3/7 I got the alternate email. Not sure what happened! But I wrote an immediate follow up that was much less forceful than my first, saying that money from GULC would make me go there over UMich... hopefully I get off the alternate

Re: In at GULC!
I really recommend this- not only was it great to see other parts of DC and apartments, but my host was from my same UG, was super friendly, and stayed up late answering every question we had (especially the ones you don't want to ask at officially events). I think it helped me get a better picture of the GULC environment.jdsurf wrote:I went to the ASW in January and we had the option of staying with a current GULC student. I think they are mostly 1Ls. I'm flying out to UVA's ASW in a few weeks and want to take a couple of hours and visit Georgetown. When they ask why I'm in town, should I mention UVA (which honestly, pending a decent scholarship from GULC, is my first choice)? I've heard that GULC can get a little snippy if you intimate that a higher ranked school is better. Short person syndrome or something.

Just to let you know I visited gulc and they do not give tours or anytging (unless your there for asw) they just give you a pamphlet and let you take a "self guided tour" most likely they wont even ask you why your there because the only person that will talk to you is the receptionistscottybared wrote:I'm flying out to UVA's ASW in a few weeks and want to take a couple of hours and visit Georgetown. Re: In at GULC!
I had a different experience... the receptionist and admissions officers were really enthusiastic when talking to me, they gave me class schedules and passes to the gym and food, and yeah they don't have guided tours but when I was poking around students went out of their way to answer my questions and show me things. I wouldn't have GULC at the top of my list if it weren't for the totally accommodating way they treated me when I visited. And I didn't have an appointment or anything I just walked in.swtlilsoni wrote:Just to let you know I visited gulc and they do not give tours or anytging (unless your there for asw) they just give you a pamphlet and let you take a "self guided tour" most likely they wont even ask you why your there because the only person that will talk to you is the receptionistscottybared wrote:I'm flying out to UVA's ASW in a few weeks and want to take a couple of hours and visit Georgetown. Well, I already set up sitting in on a class with them (This Thursday), so you can at least do that.46nyc wrote:I had a different experience... the receptionist and admissions officers were really enthusiastic when talking to me, they gave me class schedules and passes to the gym and food, and yeah they don't have guided tours but when I was poking around students went out of their way to answer my questions and show me things. Re: In at GULC!
this is true when no one is on campus over summer or winter break, but when school is in session there are regular tours scheduled every friday and some thursdays. Just e-mail admissions if you're planning to come by campus and they can set you up with tours, classes, etc. and be sure to pop by admissions for some swag while you're here!swtlilsoni wrote:Just to let you know I visited gulc and they do not give tours or anytging (unless your there for asw) they just give you a pamphlet and let you take a "self guided tour" most likely they wont even ask you why your there because the only person that will talk to you is the receptionist

Re: In at GULC!
I'm starting to lean back towards living on campus... for a variety of reasons. My only concern is the noise in on campus dorms (experiences from undergrad). for someone who is a light sleeper/ easily annoyed by extraneous sounds of music and partying, does anyone have any advice visavis on campus housing at GULC?
