Hmm, maybe the one who emailed me was just bored this afternoon. The area I requested was law and philosophy, fyi.crumpledq wrote:I submitted the request in mid-December and haven't heard anything. Well played, NYU.

Poll results are basically evenly split between the first two. No one is going to the third because we're all saving the weekend hoping we get in at Yale/Stanford.FryBreadPower wrote:Need to seriously sit down and start thinking about my travel plans and which ASW I am thinking about visiting. Finally checked in at 29/30. Early March looks bad for me, and I can't wait till April
Is it weird if I'm bringing one of my best friends to come with me? In school around upstate NY area; not an awful trek for either one of us.

Don't think so; someone I met at another ASW brought his girlfriend along as emotional support.indigomachine wrote:Finally checked in at 29/30. Early March looks bad for me, and I can't wait till April

Does anyone know when we hear back about the special named scholarships? I applied for RTK and IILJ... I'm thinking I'll only visit the ASW if I do happen to get one of those or get an interview invite.

I just got an email saying that I'm an IILJ finalist. I'm abroad, so it's very possible that those of you in the US will hear by mail. Does anyone have any idea how many finalists there are? I'd like to know what my odds are.freestallion wrote:Does anyone know when we hear back about the special named scholarships? I applied for RTK and IILJ... Nothing from AnBryce yet. I recall the invites coming out mid to late February last year.

Re: In at NYU: Class of 2015...New Poll!
So I noticed that the 2nd day of Columbia ASW's overlaps with the 1st day of the NYU ASW's. I haven't been accepted into Columbia (knock on wood) but seeing as I am looking into booking flights to New York I might as well arrive the morning before the NYU ASW just in case I have reason to go to the Columbia ASW.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is if anyone knows how people typically swing this/how anyone going to both is going to swing this? 2 days @NYU/1 day @Columbia? Vice-Versa? Half of the 1st NYU day and half of the 2nd Columbia day?

I believe the deadline for Need Access isn't until May, but they start awarding scholarships as early as March.vincanity1 wrote:Anyone know when the deadline is for Need-Access?

Re: In at NYU: Class of 2015...New Poll!
In years past, students had to attend the CLS ASW to receive travel reimbursement costs (up to $200, need-based). They don't have very many details on that on the CLS admitted student website, however... so I'm not sure if it is the same this year.FryBreadPower wrote:So I noticed that the 2nd day of Columbia ASW's overlaps with the 1st day of the NYU ASW's. It does look like many of the ASW activities are repeated so people who can only attend one day can still take a campus tour, sit in on a class, etc. I think if you hit the Friday and maybe the tail end of Thursday's schedule at NYU, you'll get the whole experience.FryBreadPower wrote:So I noticed that the 2nd day of Columbia ASW's overlaps with the 1st day of the NYU ASW's. Re: In at NYU: Class of 2015...New Poll!
For those interested, here is the ASW information from Columbia:
- A travel subsidy will only be provided to admitted students who are visiting the campus for our Admitted Student Programs or “Mondays at Columbia” events.
- Please note that in order to receive any reimbursement for an Admitted Student Program, attendance is required from no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
- For those who require financial assistance, please email the Office of Admissions before the event at admit@law.columbia.edu to request consideration for travel subsidy.
- If you will be visiting a number of law schools at the same time that you visit Columbia, you should inquire about assistance for travel expenses at the other schools, and inform us of any travel assistance you receive from them.
Please note: You must receive subsidy approval, in writing, from our office prior to your visit. If you submit your travel expenses after visiting the campus without prior approval, you will not be reimbursed.
Reimbursable Expenses
For those whose Columbia-related travel expenses represent a financial strain:
- A travel subsidy of up to $250 (variable based on city of departure) to attend an admitted student event before the May 1 decision deadline will be provided.
- Reimbursable travel expenses include: fare for airplane, train, and motor coach/bus travel, or mileage for personal automobile travel.
- Non-reimbursable travel expenses include: frequent flyer mileage, hotel accommodations, meals, and local public transportation fare (airport shuttles, subways, city buses, taxis).
- Itineraries and travel expense documentation (original receipts and ticket stubs, preferably) must be received no later than May 31, 2012, by the Office of Admissions in order to qualify for reimbursement, which will only be provided after the travel has been completed.

Can't believe it, but checking in. Knew I was in yesterday (thank you ASW) but got the call today. My first T14 acceptance and it was definitely a reach.
Already looking at places in North Jersey. The Village (and lower Manhattan generally) just seems waaaaay too expensive. Will probably check out Brooklyn as well. I guess I should probably just visit, though. Never been further NE than DC.

Me too, SO happy to join everyone here! It looks like I won't be able to swing airfare to the accepted students weekends unfortunately, but I'm super pumped to (probably) return to NY in the fall!ConfidenceMan2 wrote:Can't believe it, but checking in. For those of you looking for housing off campus- you think Bushwick is too far of a commute? The closest parts of Brooklyn are just as expensive as the Village/student housing, so that defeats the purpose...

Re: In at NYU: Class of 2015...New Poll!
When my mom was at NYU Law back in the early 80s, she lived in Connecticut (where my dad worked) and commuted in by train. She said it didn't give her any academic disadvantage, and in fact it forced her to be prepared for class every day because she would re-read her case briefs on the train.
I'm not sure about the social life aspect, since she was already married and had a social life in CT outside law school. I bet that living on campus might provide more social opportunities among your fellow classmates. If I go to NYU, I plan to live on campus for this very reason because most weekends will be spent in DC with my husband, so I'll only be able to socialize with classmates during the week.

Re: In at NYU: Class of 2015...New Poll!
Just found this thread. Accepted a week and a half ago. Still incredibly excited. I'm not definitely going here, but there is a very good chance.
Planning on going to the 3/29-30th ASW. Going to make a little trip out of it with my parents. I'll be at the ASW by myself, but we'll tour the city for the weekend. Thats the plan anyways.
Also, I just got this email from a current 1L, but I have no clue how to pronounce their name. Definitely not calling.
