Hastings is currently my first choice (See ASD comments above). I'm still waiting to hear back from Davis and USC before making a final decision.LockBox wrote:Waitlister here. it happens. it's likely the student was simply going off perception/what they heard and didn't know of the stats available.onedavetoomany wrote:Ok, so I guess the Hastings student leading my tour was BS.Lasers wrote:this is, for the most part, wrong.onedavetoomany wrote:One more thing...
I asked a current student about the grading curve. He said about 15% get As, 75% get Bs, and about 10% get Cs and Ds.
see for yourself (most give near the max of 25% A's): --LinkRemoved--
i think i'll try and lead a tour next year.

i believe smaller class size means student/faculty ratio goes up, less students to account for in terms of employment, likely better stats for the incoming class. if they were smart, they would curtail LEOP admissions more than the regular admissions.
My bet is that those trash talker regarding LEOP are trolls. I will put up my numbers and qualifications against such trolls...gauntlet thrown down

Re: Hastings 2011-2012 Cycle
personally, the ASD kinda pushed me a little more towards hastings, and at the same time, pushed me away.onedavetoomany wrote:Hastings is currently my first choice (See ASD comments above). the $$$ situation has really been an issue for me, however, after attending the financial aid presentation, i was really impressed by hastings LRAP, especially since i'm strongly considering a career with the government. so that was a push toward hastings as opposed to the other school i'm consdering, whose LRAP is pitiful.
on the other hand, the only thing i felt that was really off-putting about hastings (and has been ev of en before i attended ASD) was how large the student body was. i know they are taking steps to address this, but compared to some of the other schools i've been looking at, hastings has one of the largest student populations.
i know i need to make a decision in the very near future, but i still feel so uncertain about my choice. i was really hoping that hastings ASD would just knock me off my feet and my decision would be made for me, but it didn't. don't get me wrong, i REALLY like the school, but i'm just not sure how much i like it in relation to others i've looked at. i'm born and bred in the bay area and am living in SF now, so going to hastings would mean i wouldn't have to uproot my life. i guess i'll wait for my financial aid package (that i was told was coming this week...) to make a decision.

ArtyIvy and apollo2015, good to know there are people receptive to the idea of starting some kind of organization of students from underprivileged backgrounds giving back to the indigent.
I will definitely try to bring this up when we start school--maybe when classes aren't so crazy. Haha.

Is anyone still waiting on a response either way? This is taking quite a long time, I wish there was a way to check.

Has anyone who submitted FAFSA / the financial aid supplement by the March deadline received their aid offer yet?
Also, does anyone have an idea whether or not UCH is still awarding scholarship money or not?
Thanks in advance magical admissions know it all in the sky.

Does anyone know if I can bring someone to ASD or is it strictly admitted students only?

You can. Usually some events are student only though.tropicanax wrote:Does anyone know if I can bring someone to ASD or is it strictly admitted students only?

Absolutely. Volunteering was mandatory for my scholarship at Ivy, but only an hour a week. I worked with GED students ready to apply to college. Other things I did -- like student council, Ivy Council and serving as a literary magazine editor -- also counted. The scholarship program had an annual event that brought in underprivileged kids from local high schools to our campus for talks, workshops, etc. If anything, I wanted us to do more, like weekly tutoring or mentoring. As a non-traditional student, the GED thing was close to my heart. I got hooked!calawdude wrote:ArtyIvy and apollo2015, good to know there are people receptive to the idea of starting some kind of organization of students from underprivileged backgrounds giving back to the indigent.

I'm also a couponer, so I'd love to share those skills. It would help stretch our own budgets. I was able to donate a lot of toiletries to a teen shelter before Christmas. It would be great to see that multiplied by a few dozen (or more!) law students!

Re: Hastings 2011-2012 Cycle
I have a question for everyone living in SF--hope you guys can advise on the traffic. Haha. I'll be driving to the Admitted Students Day event Saturday morning from South Francisco, right next to the airport (about 11 miles, according to Google Maps). The event starts at 9:30 a.m. Is there usually traffic going that direction Saturday morning? I'm not from the Bay Area so I'm just trying to see if I need to head out EXTRA early.
Thanks in advance.

Freeway traffic that early shouldn't be too bad. What may take time is driving to Hastings from the freeway. I'd say leaving about 30 min before isn't bad if you've seen the area before - the city's love for one way streets can be confusing at times.calawdude wrote:I have a question for everyone living in SF--hope you guys can advise on the traffic. If you're flying in, you don't need to drive. There is a BART station at the airport, and you could take BART straight to within one block of campus. ^ this option is easier and cheaper. Parking is $3/hour at Hastings.apollo2015 wrote:If you're flying in, you don't need to drive. agree ... take the BART. much easier. it should take 30 minutes max from SFO to the Civic Center BART station. Parking can be a pain in the Hastings area, you'd most likely have to find a garage and pay SF's $$$ garage prices.apollo2015 wrote:If you're flying in, you don't need to drive.
