Just got the scholarship info after emailing about it Friday. 21k/year. Almost a half scholarship. No stips.

Re: Case Western 2015
I think they just offered me 5K a year. Either they are trolling me or they just don't want me to attend. I read this and was like wtf?

Re: Case Western 2015
Their website lists full scholarships and partials in value between 5k(i-think) and 26k. Doesn't seem to be much negotiating room. The 26k just isn't going to do it for me. Value isn't there.Jsa725 wrote:congrats! can you negotiate with case?superbloom wrote:Just got the scholarship info after emailing about it Friday. 21k/year. Almost a half scholarship. No stips.

Word! I'm actually surprised they offered me a measly 5K I immediately withdrew. Kind of insulting to be honest.JK910 wrote:Their website lists full scholarships and partials in value between 5k(i-think) and 26k. Doesn't seem to be much negotiating room. Re: Case Western 2015
There are scholarships in excess of 26k that are not full (Dean's) scholarships. If you're wondering why you got more/less than expected, Case's goal in terms of playing the number is to move the LSAT median back to 160+. If you split in favor of LSAT, I wouldn't be surprised if you got more than someone with a really good GPA but median LSAT. This has been the case in the past as well, and if you look at a number of schools ranked in the lower T1, the chief factor separating them from CWRU is a combination of overall selectivity and LSAT median/25th. So, FYI, that's why things may be playing out the way they are. But because most applicants don't report on TLS or LSN, it's hard to tell.
I think the fact the scholarships are now guaranteed may have decreased the per year amounts somewhat. I think that might end up working against them; I think many applicants assume they won't lose their scholarships, or would rather take a chance and then drop out than accept a somewhat smaller but guaranteed scholarship. It was a popular decision among existing students (obviously) but I wonder if it will really work out for them.
There are also a handful of targeted scholarships designed to attract people with particular interests, but I think all that amounts to is whatever your numbers merit + X, where X is the amount necessary to bring the scholarship up to the desired numbers. Those are usually 30/35k, or at least they have been in the past 2 cycles, and I see a couple on LSN, so they must still exist.
Isn't this fun? I hate law school admissions.

Re: Case Western 2015
Got my scholly offer a bit ago, $15k/year. It made me happy, though their tuition is probably the highest out of any of the schools I'm considering. I'll have to call them and ask about their LRAP to see whether it's worth it.

Re: Case Western 2015
22k a year scholarship with no stips. Yay? On Case's website they claim an estimated COL of roughly 17k a year. Anybody who is familiar with Cleveland COL, does this seem like a reasonable estimation? I would think between 10k-13k is more likely given that you can find really great deals for cheap apartments and house rentals.
P.S., I e-mailed the admissions office (which handles scholarship decisions apparently) and they responded to me in e-mail with my scholarship info. Maybe worth a shot for some of you anxiously awaiting a response.

Re: Case Western 2015
17k seems really high for Cleveland (especially when its estimated for 9 months). Apartments within a reasonable distance to the school can be found for $500-700, and CLE COL is relatively low compared to other cities. I'd say $15k for 12 months is a high estimate.Ohiobumpkin wrote:22k a year scholarship with no stips. Yay? On Case's website they claim an estimated COL of roughly 17k a year. Re: Case Western 2015
That's way high. I currently live in downtown Cleveland, while completing my Bachelor's, and I can live on $10,000 during the school year. This doesn't leave a ton of room for frivolous spending, but it can definitely be done. I live by myself as well. I do, however, work during the breaks.Ohiobumpkin wrote:22k a year scholarship with no stips. Yay? On Case's website they claim an estimated COL of roughly 17k a year.
