Definitely...in their tweet they said for sure that some RD decisions would be out before 12/22

Dulc, would you really take Penn over NYU?

I dunno, but it's nice to have options! Especially since Penn tends to give more $$ than NYU.

I just had my co-worker call the admissions office from a blocked number and ask when they would begin to release decisions for RD applicants. They said there is a batch of some people going out "early next week," and that the rest of them would be going out in early January. Thus Spoke Penn.

I just had my co-worker call the admissions office from a blocked number and ask when they would begin to release decisions for RD applicants. They said there is a batch of some people going out "early next week," and that the rest of them would be going out in early January. Thus Spoke Penn.

Why the blocked number? I call different schools all the time without blocking my phone number.
Crossing myself into a pretzel that I might hear early next week. It would be a very good Christmas present.

Should I just send my Penn app with only a diversity essay? How many essays did you all submit? I have a second, it's just not quite done yet.

You need the 5-year.

I doubt you "need" a certain one, aside from needing one to submit to have a check in the checkbox. The supp essay prob makes or breaks like, 2 apps, each cycle.

It doesn't make or break, it lands you on the WL if you are strong enough to get admitted but have no strong/apparent ties to Penn.

Yeah, blocked calls are annoying and weird. I have to think you'd get far more information if you acted like a normal human being when you called them.

I just thought the second essay provided a lot more scope to differentiate myself.

I'd write at least the 5-year essay. It was the same prompt as always, Penn has a small enough class that they probably want to field people who really want to come, since Philly is like the forgotten city in the Northeast. Can't go wrong with that one. You may be good without it, but that is just s decent option IMO.

But that doesn't mean I don't desperately cling to the hope that they will.

After reviewing this thread, it seems like the UCR 12/14 people are in bad shape (myself included), while members of the 12/15 group should expect a phone call by the end of the week. The difference in numbers is apparent.

Here's to hoping I'm right about the second part and wrong about the first.
