Well being asked to confirm 100% you would attend counts as being told something specific if you ask me...Now tbf idk how you replied to that call.

Waitlist update:
Thank you for your continued interest in the university of pennsylvania law school. I write to provide you with an update about the waitlist.
Due to the number of students who have requested deferrals, and some waitlist activity at peer institutions, the Admissions Committee continues to actively review the waitlist. Based on this and historical data, we anticipate extending up to 20 additional offers throughout the remainder of the summer. Please remember that our waitlist is not ranked.
You are welcome to continue to provide updates to your admission file. Please remember to include your LSAC account number on any correspondence submitted to us. Emailing information to the Office of Admissions (contactadmissions@law.upenn.edu) is the best method of communication. If you are completing your degree this year, we strongly suggest you submit your final undergraduate transcript to LSAC. Please do not send grade reports to us directly.
As a reminder, you are welcome to schedule an informational meeting with an Admissions Officer here.
In fairness to all applicants, if you have made other plans for next fall and no longer wish to be considered, please notify us immediately.
Finally, rest assured that need-based aid will be available to any eligible applicant admitted from the waitlist at any point throughout the remainder of the cycle.
I hope to be in a position to send you another update in late June.
Thank you for your continued patience.
Warm regards.

Curious as to how many people received the wait list email and what our chances are. I'm a big reverse splitter.

I haven't posted at all in this thread or others, but I was accepted late last week from the wait list and am a reverse splitter. From my phone calls and correspondence with admissions, they really want to see your enthusiasm and commitment to attending Penn Law if accepted from the wait list. I visited multiple times, did the informal meeting in person, and wrote multiple letters/essays of continued interest. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

So this is what I found out in trying to get to what a person's chances are.Law2511 wrote:Curious as to how many people received the wait list email and what our chances are. I'm a big reverse splitter.
My primary assumption is that they try to replace similar numbers, and that within similar number equivalence groups they have rankings (which include how excited you seem to go to Penn, how much you are reaching out, etc.)
Note: All data is from LSN.com, so there is self selection bias.
First thing is to get an idea of what those who withdrawal from Penn look like:
Code: Select all
Accepted -> Withdrawal
LSAT
| 0, 25 | 25, 50 | 50, 75 | 75,100
--------------------------------------------------------------
G [ 0, 25) | 0.0110 | 0.0110 | 0.0088 | 0.0569
P [25, 50) | 0.0066 | 0.0176 | 0.0132 | 0.3020
A [50, 75) | 0.0044 | 0.0351 | 0.0197 | 0.2254
[70,100] | 0.0088 | 0.0394 | 0.0154 | 0.2145
Code: Select all
Accepted from WL
LSAT

--------------------------------------------------------------
G [ 0, 25) | 0.0527 | 1.0E-4 | 0.0790 | 0.2895
P [25, 50) | 0.0264 | 0.0527 | 0.0264 | 0.0527
A [50, 75) | 0.0264 | 0.1316 | 0.0264 | 0.0264

Code: Select all
WL (ex withdrawal) Demographics
LSAT
| 0, 25 | 25, 50 | 50, 75 | 75,100
--------------------------------------------------------------
G [ 0, 25) | 0.0444 | 0.0270 | 0.0270 | 0.1760
P [25, 50) | 0.0270 | 0.1268 | 0.0603 | 0.2710
A [50, 75) | 0.0222 | 0.0587 | 0.0111 | 0.0207
[70,100] | 0.0111 | 0.0761 | 0.0064 | 0.0143
Estimate the number of total people on the WL, estimate amount in your stats group, estimate the # of spots of the 20 or so from your stats group. That should give you an idea of how many folks you need to "beat out" for the spot.

Do they make you withdraw from other waitlists if you are accepted? Or do they just want you to decommit from other schools? I wouldn't want to be taken off the Harvard one after this much wait

Re: University of Pennsylvania WAITLIST c/o 2019 (2015-2016)
Guys, I was waitlisted back in February and sent in a LOCI in March. I just came from the informational meeting yesterday which went great and was advised to send in any updates to my file. However, not much has changed for me. Would a second LOCI still be effective considering I already expressed my desire in the initial LOCI?

Hey guys, I received an offer earlier this week! I got a call from Dir. of Admissions Randi Garnick gauging my true interest in Penn. She allowed me to take a few days to consider if I would come if I got an offer (I did not need a few days to think about it lol). I called back two days later and said that I would absolutely go, then a few hours after that she called me back to confirm I have an admission offer.
I'm still in shock! Good luck!
