Re: George Mason Law
I've seen that some people have received phone calls when they got accepted. The admissions office told me via email that they sent out a letter to me yesterday. Have others just been accepted via letter? I'm just a little nervous over here.

What do y'all think of the conditional scholarships. A lot of my other schools have no conditions. Is there a way to find out how many students lose theirs?

Re: George Mason Law
If you take a look at the last few years of 509 forms, Mason has reduced/rescind scholarships for a large number of students. If you are in a position to tweak the odds in your favor it is probably worth pursuing.Liz18 wrote:I suggest trying to negotiate that. Got in via phone today. Didn't speak with anyone, just got a voicemail. They said to expect an admissions packet next week. I'm 163/3.09, Out of State, non-URM. Does anyone have any insight into their scholarship process? How much? Conditional vs. Unconditional?
Thanks!

Received an email stating that the school received $30 million in gifts today from two sources. They extended their application deadline to May 15 and are also renaming the law school in honor of Justice Scalia.
Anybody else thinking about applying just because of this?

This is one of those announcements that you should not make near April Fool's day.emkay625 wrote:How does everyone feel about this:

They're extending their application window until May 15th with the additional $30 million in available scholarship funds - according to an e-mail I received this morning.

As a current student at Mason (or apparently, ASSOL), I would encourage you all to get out NOW and not make a deposit here. If yesterday's events did anything, it was confirm what a joke this school is. It has no respect for its students (us current students found out no earlier than you all that the name was changing). The dean went to the Koch brothers begging for money when instead he should've been concerning himself with our pitiful bar passage rates over the last two years and declining status. And now the whole school is in disarray. Unless you're in-state and this is your only option, you should definitely pick a different DC-area law school.

Looking at this objectively from the outside, employees/students generally don't find out changes like this until the general public does anyway. Also, I think it's at least a little commendable that the dean was able to procure $30M for the school. I agree with you in needing to improve bar passage, but this sounds a little over overdramatic. Just to clarify, how is the whole school in disarray over the renaming and getting $30M?Mason2L wrote:As a current student at Mason (or apparently, ASSOL), I would encourage you all to get out NOW and not make a deposit here. Re: George Mason Law
Does anyone know the chances of getting off the waitlist? George Mason is my top choice! I was hoping some of us might hear back in regards to the waitlist in April due to the application deadline, but now with the deadline being extended, I don't think we will know until May. Does anyone know if the Seat Deposit deadline was also extended?
Thanks for the help!

This reeks of political bias. Couple things:Mason2L wrote:As a current student at Mason (or apparently, ASSOL), I would encourage you all to get out NOW and not make a deposit here. 1. Do you honestly expect the school to ask its students approval for changing the name? That would cause all kind of chaos.
2. Please learn your facts. The name was changed because of a 20m donation from an anonymous donor who asked for the change, not the 10m the Koch foundation gave.
3. If you honestly feel the school is a joke and in disarray, instead of just being partisan, why don't you drop out? Or transfer?

1. I don't expect the school to ask us beforehand. But even the students who approve of the name change agree the school handled it poorly. It was announced on Twitter, by someone not associated with the school, the day before April Fools day. No one knew if it was for real and the administration refused to confirm for hours. It just would've been nice to have had official notice.rsmithpt267 wrote:This reeks of political bias. 2. I did learn my facts. As reported: "Butler first approached the Koch foundation asking if they'd donate the entire $30 million. The Kochs declined, but offered a 'challenge gift' of $10 million if Butler could find the other $20 million." (http://www.washingtonian.com/2016/03/31 ... in-scalia/). It's not like this donor came to the school with this proposition. Butler sought it out from the Kochs, which is what I said.
3. I won't drop out of law school because I want to be a lawyer. 2Ls can't transfer unless they want to repeat a year (law schools only accept 30 transfer credits).
That being said, if you want to go there, then do.

The great name of George Mason is priced only $30 million? Dirt cheap.emkay625 wrote:How does everyone feel about this:
