do you ever feel unsafe in the atlanta area?
TBH Atlanta is very dangerous, although i've never lived in another major city so i don't have enough perspective to know how it compares to places like NYC/Chicago/LA. GSU is required to send out "campus alerts" via email whenever there is a theft/violent crime on campus (GSU is located in the heart of downtown). I get at least 1-2 of these a week and they almost always involve someone getting an electronic device stolen from them at gun point. there was even one last week that occurred on the fourth floor of the library(macbook stolen at gunpoint while someone was studying)! campus is swarming with homeless people and the panhandling is really annoying.
Basically the administration can't keep these people from just walking into the school. On the other hand some areas are very nice i really like living here and feel safe most of the time, mostly because i aint no duck if ya feel me

I was placed on second review back in November, but today received an email that my file is scheduled to be reviewed the week of January 25th

. Hopefully a decision will come soon after - looking to come down to Atlanta to check out the school, but I'm hesitant to book a flight until I receive a decision. I'm not sure if anyone else received an email like this?
I got the same email, applied around the same time. The email is a bit ambiguous. Do we get reviewed the week of the 25th or
starting the week of the 25th?
Just an update - my application status checker says that my second review is currently in progress.

so nervewracking!!

Good luck to all!
Received scholarship info last week; Dean's Scholarship and GRA position with waiver for 3L.
GA State is pleasing me, however, I will most likely begin some negotiating ASAP...

I got the Dean's Scholarship offer a week or so ago!
It had a deadline of Feb 15 for acceptance, so I'd assume the second batch of scholarship offers will go out after that date.

SUPER early! All my other offers don't require a response until April.

No, just something about an admitted students reception.

Anyone have any idea how long the "second review" normally takes? I figure if its good news, it should be sometime in the near future?

anyone know anything about the GRA position with scholarship offer? Is this something that is awarded to many and unrealistic or a good deal?

it gets awarded to quite a few people. what do you mean by unrealistic? if you mean the stipulation then i don't really think a 2.8 is unrealistic. in terms of how good of a deal it is i guess that depends, it pretty much equals a full ride if you get it for 2l and 3l along with 8k/10k for 1l but you have to work approx. 20 hours a week the second two years (which sorta makes it not a full ride), this might be cool if your doing meaningful research with a member of the faculty, say working on a publication or something, but then again it might kinda suck if you're serving as a TA in a random undergrad class, which is something that some GRAs end up doing. i personally plan to take the deal.

I received the same scholarship as well, except I was given a non-resident tuition waiver for 1L instead of the 8k/10k amount. Where did you see the GPA stipulation as a 2.8? In their handbook online it list the GPA stipulation for good academic standing as a 2.2 (Handbook link:
https://insidelaw.gsu.edu/document/bulletin/).
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
