I think they either give you something to be Thankful for next week or to celebrate at Christmas

Just had my status checker update to my 3rd "Application Complete" date!

I also noticed that "Decision Status" and "Decision Status Date" have been added to the status checker.

Decisions soon??

I just updated the first post with this link, but wanted to share it here too: http://law.nd.edu/careers/career-map/

You can search job placement by state, and it breaks it down by category. The placement data used is from the past 5 years.

How much emphasis is placed on optional essays such as the why NDLS and the recently added Different Kind of Lawyer Essay.
Why NDLS is almost mandatory. The school is slightly oppressed with their different kind of lawyer motto. I wrote one and got accepted with a GPA and LSAT slightly under Class of 2018 median. People with higher numbers who didn't write it more likely got wait listed and asked to write one in their wait list letter. (NDLS seems to place a lot of kids on their waitlist lately but this might just be a factor of less applicants in general even though NDLS actually saw an increase, and they are just trying to play it safe.)

Idk about the new topic, it was more of a general diversity statement last year with a different Kind of lawyer motto twist but it sounds the same just with a different title. I wrote one also however I know the Why NDLS paper is much more important.
I wrote my personal statement and within the essay, I dedicated an entire page/paragraph to WHY NDLS. Additionally, I wrote a diversity/DKL statement. I am a relatively diverse candidate, but my gpa is shooting me in the foot and my LSAT isn't good enough to carry me. Do you think I should submit another essay further explaining WHY NDLS? If so, how long do Why NDLS essays tend to be? I submit my app 11/25.

Thanks

Mine was almost two pages. But if you'd have to stretch it to add anymore meaningful material than I think your app is as good as it can be as is.

^^I'd really like to discuss this. It's put a few things in perspective for me...
How many of you applying to NDLS are from nearby states or want to end up there post-law school?

I'm from Georgia and I really don't know where I would like to end up post-law school. I love the Southeast and wouldn't mind staying in GA and practicing in Atlanta (I'm not opposed to leaving). This makes me question applying to Notre Dame at all. I understand that they place really well in the big markets like FL, Chicago, NY and DC but if i wanted to come back to the Southeast in a market like GA, NC or VA I wonder if it's worth going to school at NDLS. Their clerk placement rate and job numbers are important to me and I really love that they are a Catholic school but idk if this is enough to warrant going anymore.

NDLS student here - my impression is that NDLS students are most successful at the job search if they come from secondary markets that lack top law schools and are trying to get back to that market. You'd have to compare NDLS with any GA or Southeast school you get into. If you're comparing NDLS with Vandy or Duke, then the latter 2 are probably better choices (unless the difference in money is significant). Between Emory and NDLS, assuming money is equal, Emory is the better choice if you are sure you wanna work in Atlanta. If your options are UNC or Wake or U of GA, then you might wanna give NDLS more serious consideration - the big law & fed clerk placement rate for those schools is quite a bit lower than Notre Dame.

Thanks for the insight, I'll keep doing research. Any idea where you would like to practice post-graduation?

Nope. The admissions office twitter account said to tweet them questions this am and I'm tempted to ask for a timeline

Seems like a reasonable question to me. Hopefully we'll start hearing soon. Looks like people were getting decisions last year in the middle of November; not that it means anything.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
