Cuse has spoken. But the point remains that not all T14's are equal in terms of job placement.

Interview request today. Was admitted last cycle with a significant Scholly. Had to sit out a cycle for personal reasons. Seems like this cycle might be expedited. PM for any details I can give into last cycle admissions.

Just had the interview. They're very nice! I didn't know what to expect from a law school interview but I definitely left with a good impression.

Sounds like we have similar situations. Good luck. I was wondering if they would interview reapplicants.theleastdiverse wrote:Interview request today. What do you think is the tipping point to apply ED?acr wrote:I was accepted ED last year so if anyone has specific questions about that I can probably help

a) looked on law school numbers and saw you could get $X more for ED
b) targeting Saint Louis
c) best for your numbers

Re: WUSTL Class of 2019 Applicants
I mean it was a couple different factors that just made ED the right decision for me. My numbers were 167/3.57, so even if I did get accepted to some of the lower T14 or Vanderbilt, UT, UCLA, etc, I definitely wouldn't have gotten enough money to make attending one of those schools worthwhile. I'm also pretty debt averse, so it was mainly a decision of maximizing employment opportunities while minimizing debt, and I thought WUSTL was the highest ranked school I could get into that would provide the most opportunity and also have the chance to get substantial $$$$.aspire2esquire wrote:Random possibilities...acr wrote:What do you mean by tipping point?aspire2esquire wrote:What do you think is the tipping point to apply ED?acr wrote:I was accepted ED last year so if anyone has specific questions about that I can probably help

I think I was fortunate that my LSAT was a 167 instead of even a 166 because from what I've heard admissions was gunning pretty hard for 167's last cycle. My 167 and the fact that I applied literally within a couple days of the app opening (I was probably one of the first few to ever get accepted through WUSTL's ED so they didn't really have anything else to compare it to and guaranteed a decision within 2 weeks) made me a competitive candidate.
As for targeting St. Louis, I would forget St. Louis unless you grew up in St. Louis and want to be here for the rest of your life. That's the consensus I've seen so far about the market anyway. But I'm originally from the Midwest and don't mind it here so my familiarity with the Midwest played into the decision as well. I would definitely say that the tipping point was the unique pocket, or gap, that my numbers put me in. I feel fortunate to be here on full scholly because while there are certainly a lot of people here with big money, I think it's sometimes overstated.

Re: WUSTL Class of 2019 Applicants
This point is dead on and cannot be emphasized strongly enough when it comes to biglaw specifically. If you're not from St. Louis or very close by you need to understand that you're coming in with a significant handicap for the STL legal market. It is not insurmountable - solid grades (At least top 1/3, mostly higher), truly excellent interviewing skills (Most people overestimate how well they interview by a large margin so be honest), diversity, or IP can get you in but it is difficult. You'll also have to stay in St. Louis over your 1L summer if you even want a shot, and I'd strongly recommend joining SLAMSL and BAMSL.acr wrote:As for targeting St. Louis, I would forget St. Louis unless you grew up in St. Louis and want to be here for the rest of your life. Some firms are more open than others, and there are a couple firms that consider different variables, but in general that's how it goes. Just a heads up to anyone looking at WUSTL biglaw numbers.

During my interview, 4 days ago, they said they would start reviewing applications very soon. Obviously that's not super specific, but I'm hoping that means by October 1Scalvert wrote:Anyone had status checker movement?

Good. Mine has said UR for awhile now. I suspected that it probably wasn't actually being reviewed though - just complete and sitting in a pile somewhere. Did you get any indication of why they requested an interview? LSAT score? Something else? I'm just wondering if they contact only those whom they're ready to admit, or if they choose interviewees using some other criteria.WhiteHouse wrote:During my interview, 4 days ago, they said they would start reviewing applications very soon. They were very flattering about the general application. They offered to fly me to St. Louis to visit the school, and made sure to mention that the Adcom was meeting soon and she "thinks they'll be very impressed," so I definitely got the hint that I was being strongly considered.Scalvert wrote:Good. Don't worry if you are under review and haven't gotten an interview request. One of the admission deans that does interviews has been out of the office and gets back soon. I think that has held them up some.

Nice! Are you ED or reg? It looks like things probably will pick up as soon as Oct gets here:
