A lot of the nightlife happens on K Street, which isn't too far from the Law Campus. It's completely separate from the undergrad campus, and one could argue that it's extremely inclusive. Although, I think its location is great for the school, given that Judiciary Square is a hop, skip, and a jump away.urbanist11 wrote:I've been to DC a number of times, easily one of my favorite cities. I'm not worried about safety either really. More interested in the specifics of the area GTown is in - apts, restaurants, shopping, bars, etc. I'll be visiting UVA in the fall, might be worth swinging up to DC I suppose.

Here is an article and website about "Capitol Crossing" to give you an idea of how much this area is changing.urbanist11 wrote:I've been to DC a number of times, easily one of my favorite cities. That article is from 2012 but the project is in full swing now.
There are apartments all around the law school as well: 77H, Mass Court, 425 Mass, etc

There are some major homelessness resources right in the area, so it makes sense.slippin_jimmy wrote: You could also marvel at/fear the number of homeless people near Georgetown, like the girl in front of me in line for the bathroom during the LSAT did. I mean. They're around but.... really??

Re: Georgetown C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I'm considering checking in here, but in the meantime figured I'd offer some info as a local.urbanist11 wrote:I've been to DC a number of times, easily one of my favorite cities. GULC is right near Union Station/Chinatown, which means there are a ton of good restaurants nearby (Try Cava, because it is literally heaven in a bowl. Think Chipotle but with Greek food). As far as bars, there are a lot on H street (someone said K up above, but K is really more of a business district from 27th NW to 8th NW and then new construction and older houses west of 8th). I was going to say it isn't really a pretty area, but I can see where some people might disagree with me.
There's no need to worry about safety in DC. It's gentrified enough that you won't encounter any sketchy situations where you'll be (in Northwest). Don't think it won't happen and be a dumb drunk on your phone asking to get mugged, but don't worry about it. GULC is by the freeway, so you're likely to see a number of homeless people. Most are harmless and just want to be left alone. I've safely walked through the areas surrounding GULC at night and felt okay.
There are a lot of (expensive) apartments right by GULC being built/recently built, along with new groceries, restaurants, and bars. Gentrification at work. Sigh.
Anyway, if anyone has questions, I'll probably be lurking through here, so feel free to ask.
ETA: Shopping: There's some in Chinatown, which is nearby. There's a Macys, a few nice places like Gucci and Kate Spade, H&M, umm...Forever 21? There's other stuff, but I can't remember. Georgetown is a nice shopping area (not near the law school, but you can get there on the Circulator). Pentagon City sucks imo, but I have a couple friends who love it. It's a quick metro ride. Or there's Tyson's Corner, which is a further metro ride, but a freaking awesome mall. It's like the 2nd biggest in the country or something?

What do people put there?!
This was mine - the text could have been more compelling, but it looked pretty
The dimensions on the website weren't the same as the dimensions on LSAC, so that's why the box isn't the same shape, in case anyone was anal enough to notice that.

So a stick figure of myself standing in front of the White House is a no-go, I'm guessing.

Hmm... What type of law you want to practice? (Biglaw, gov't PI, nonprofit PI, etc.) Could be interesting to see if we live up to the Gtown reputationwhacka wrote:any suggestions for a new poll?
