I used an abstract from a paper I gave at a conference. I thought it rounded out a more informal personal statement.Hildegard15 wrote:Does the topic of your 250 have to somehow relate to yourself/your path to law school? Or can you just expound on some random topic you like in an interesting way?

Here's the link to the exact blog post for anyone else who hasn't found it yet:cdotson2 wrote:theoretically you are allowed to write on anything you want, but they do list some preferred topics, and do's and don'ts on their website.Hildegard15 wrote:Does the topic of your 250 have to somehow relate to yourself/your path to law school? Notable quote:
"So the 250 is a chance for you to explore something you care about that might have ended up on the cutting room floor in writing your personal statement. Maybe it's a policy argument. Maybe it's a piece about a hobby or passion of yours. Maybe it's a personal anecdote. There's not much you can't write about."
That said, here's a notable DON'T: don't use the essay as a "Why Yale?" essay!

Tough, right?? I've read both of their memoirs! When researching for the poll, I was admittedly shocked to find Bruce Wayne, haha.Hildegard15 wrote:The poll is brutal. Debating between HRC and Sonia Sotomayor.....salander wrote:New poll up!! Happy voting

Re: Yale c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I found a fun video by YLS featuring a 2014 interview with the three alumni who currently sit on the Supreme Court (Sotomayor, Alito, and Thomas):
https://vimeo.com/110465689
You guys should watch it if you have time! The responses were quite funny; I was laughing pretty much all the way through. (The interview begins at 18:10. Sample funny anecdotes can be found at 42:03-42:45 by Clarence Thomas and 44:24-45:25 by Sonia Sotomayor.)

This post is for Salander.
Last night on a whim when I was bored out of my mind I watched The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo, having never read the book/known anything about the series at all. As a consequence, you are now (temporarily) my favorite TLS poster

Had to look this up because with literally no previous knowledge of the books/movies did not know there was more than one. Fincher.James.K.Polk wrote:David Fincher or Niels Arden Oplev? I've seen them both about 5 times each, and I'm convinced the soundtrack sets the Fincher version apart.jetsfan1 wrote:This post is for Salander.

This, along with the recent New York Times review of "The Girl in the Spider's Web," just made my day. Thanksjetsfan1 wrote:This post is for Salander.

Re: Yale c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
So I've been thinking about it and I'm not even sure if I'm going to bother applying to Yale. I'm not getting in (GPA too low and not interesting enough to offset it) and I think I'm somewhat competitive for HS (either of which I'd be super crazy happy with). I'm not sure if it's even worth the time and money to apply. If I do, it definitely won't be until like January when I've already gotten some idea of how my cycle went.

Definitely over Harvard (I know that hurts you Hilde), maybe over Stanford (I love the idea of going to Stanford).Hildegard15 wrote:Would you pick Yale over HS? You may have a chance of getting in.
