Re: BYU (J. Reuben Clark) C/O 2018 Applicants
Any success stories of people getting in with a 3.1 GPA? I'll be where I need to be in terms of the LSAT, but it appears as if the 25/Median/75 is a bit higher than peer schools.
Hopefully the WE in the Army and as a police officer will help. Too bad I bring no diversity: white, male, Mormon... Perhaps they will cut this Georgia Mormon a break.
Horror story: I know a guy that had a 3.8 and a 171 that was denied... All I can think of was he was a white Mormon male from Provo that went to BYU for his undergrad.

I was told that those with one score higher than the median and one lower than the median are in the "high/low" category, which much of their admitted students comes from. I was in that category, except my GPA was in the 75th percentile and my LSAT was just below the median. It looks like there were 11 people total admitted last year with a GPA of 3.0-3.25 with various LSAT scores. "Admitted Students Day" is this Thursday, so I think they've contact most of the students they are planning on admitting for Fall, but there are still a couple days left if you've applied for 2015.petdetective wrote:Any success stories of people getting in with a 3.1 GPA? I have not yet applied, I'm still working full time, trying to save as much money as I possibly can before applying this upcoming cycle. I took the LSAT in December and received a lackluster score (154). As I said in a different, I simply failed to respect the exam and took it without preparation. I'm definitely re-taking. I've been consistently PTing in the 164-166 range but am struggling to decide whether to re-take in June in order to apply very early in September, or re-take in October and apply in late November.
Do you think the early application boost in September is considerable enough to warrant taking the exam in June?

Personally, no. But what do I know? Regarding your earlier post, I'm only a 3.2 undergrad GPA, but I have an M.A. and a pretty decent LSAT score (164), though like you I didn't really study properly. Luckily I'm fairly good at tests, I decided to apply anyway and not try again after studying.petdetective wrote:I have not yet applied, I'm still working full time, trying to save as much money as I possibly can before applying this upcoming cycle. I still haven't heard anything from the law school, I did get accepted to the MBA program though!

Anyone attend the admitted student day and can give us a number on the turnout? I interviewed in December but still haven't heard back yet. Just wondering if I should give up on the idea of an acceptance or continue to hope for good things to come. Thanks

A lot of people at admitted students day yesterday. It filled up the entire moot court room, although some of those spots were spouses. However, I spoke to a few 1Ls (class of 2017) who weren't admitted until July or were waitlisted until the last minute.Andrew6162 wrote:Anyone attend the admitted student day and can give us a number on the turnout? I think it might depend on how many of those people who were at Admitted Students Day actually commit. Probably less than 50% of us there had already committed.

what did you think of admitted students day? I wasn't able to make it due to my work schedule.Agsmith wrote:A lot of people at admitted students day yesterday. I was just scheduled for an interview tomorrow. Any advice before I go in? This late, is this a good sign, do you think?

I think it's probably a good sign. I believe BYU continues to send out acceptances until the seat deposit deadline.ubergusterfan wrote:I was just scheduled for an interview tomorrow. Any advice before I go in? This late, is this a good sign, do you think?

I interviewed with the Dean on Tuesday. It went well, it seemed more like a sales pitch and less like an interview. I wouldn't worry!ubergusterfan wrote:I was just scheduled for an interview tomorrow. Any advice before I go in? This late, is this a good sign, do you think?

Have you heard back yet? Probably not if you interviewed yesterday, I'm just curious.mak04 wrote:I interviewed with the Dean on Tuesday. Got a call from the Dean, I'm waitlisted (undergrad GPA a bit low), but the next round is in 3 weeks. At least I'm in for sure at the MBA program....

Hi everybody. I was also waitlisted. Does anyone know when the next deposit deadline is? How likely is it that they take people from the waitlist?

I believe the deadline is the 22nd, but I am not sure because they extended my deadline.Navidfa wrote:Hi everybody. I was also waitlisted. Does anyone know when the next deposit deadline is? How likely is it that they take people from the waitlist?

Thank you so much for responding! Do you mean that it was pushed to the 22nd or it was the 22nd and now it is a later date? Also, are you still deciding whether to go to BYU? I hope the best for you regardless of where you end up.
Do we know if they take most people on the waitlist? Also, do we know if the waitlist is now closed and will no longer be added to?
Thanks all!

This is actually really good information! Thank you. So July is the next major decision month for waitlisted students? Also did you get a sense from admitted students regarding their intent of committing? I also wonder if they are still adding people to the waitlist. I would assume not.Agsmith wrote:However, I spoke to a few 1Ls (class of 2017) who weren't admitted until July or were waitlisted until the last minute.Andrew6162 wrote:Anyone attend the admitted student day and can give us a number on the turnout? Re: BYU (J. Reuben Clark) C/O 2018 Applicants
I called on April 16th because I was supposed to pay a seat deposit at the U in a couple of days and had hoped to get an email about my admission decision. I talked to Marie Kulbeth who said she had been planning on calling me because they were pretty interested in me on the wait list. I got an email asking for an interview five or six days later and interviewed on the 23rd. Dean Sorensen told me they were very interested and were basically just waiting on people paying their seat deposits. She said she'd call the first or second week of may and when I told her things were very dependent on my husband's job (so we needed a decision ASAP), she said she'd call as soon as she could. She called Saturday morning with an admissions offer. So, for those of you who feel like there is no hope, there is!
Also, does anyone know if it's possible to defer for a year and keep admission?

From what I understand, they only allow based on special circumstances like military obligation or medical emergency. But you can always ask.emma1234 wrote:I called on April 16th because I was supposed to pay a seat deposit at the U in a couple of days and had hoped to get an email about my admission decision.
