They only require 1 is what I thought, 3 is the most they would take.

Yeah, you only need 1 to submit.
That said: if I submit now, only one of LORs is in. Will they just evaluate my application with only the 1 (even though I listed all 3 I requested on my application)? And if so, do people have thoughts on whether or not it'd be better to wait to submit until the rest of my LORs are in? (Does CAS wait until all of your letters are in to compile/send their report?)

You're right that one is required, but where most schools say that they require two and generally discourage any more that aren't adding very significantly to the app, Michigan says "We require only one letter of recommendation, but encourage you to submit three."
It just makes me uncomfortable to not do it if they encourage it.
I also found this puzzling and would appreciate any insight past applicants might have. How strongly does Michigan "encourage" the second/third recs? How much better is two than one, and three than two? For Michigan, would two outstanding and one solid recommendation be better than the two great ones by themselves?

Let's be honest... you getting in or not is not going to be determined by whether or not you submitted 2 vs. 3 letters of rec. What matters is your LSAT and GPA, this is what they have to report for their rankings.
If you are on the fringe/have low numbers, yeah, it might help if it's a good letter over someone with identical numbers. I wouldn't sweat it though. Write good essays and submit two solid rec letters and you'll have the best possible outcome that you personally could have.
Also, it says in the instructions page that you can have letters sent through LSAC or to them directly from the recommender. If you're really worried about the timing, submit as early as you can (a much bigger factor than a third letter) and have the last letter(s) sent in directly to Mich rather than to LSAC.

That's awesome bc I filled out the whole app and am just polishing up my essays. Here's hoping for a hidden waiver...

Checking in. I applied ED the day the application opened. I'm 100% GI Bill elligible so money is not a big issue. Michigan is my number 1 by far so ED just made since for me. I'm an AA URM as well as a veteran with good numbers so I hope they snatch me up! See you in Ann Arbor!

Checking in with my virgin post
This may sound a bit impatient but does anyone know when can we get an email from Michigan acknowledging the receipt of the app once we submit it?
I submitted mine two days ago but haven't received any email directly from Michigan yet (except three emails from LSAC right after submission). I guess the law school would send us a username/password for status check?
Thanks and good luck on everyone's application!

What's the general opinion on how beneficial it is to be an in-state applicant for Michigan Law? It's not nearly as advantageous as it is for Texas residents applying to UT, correct?

I don't think there's any preference or advantage

I got a really nice package from Michigan, including a lookbook and a letter offering a fee waiver (including a very nice personal note from Dean Z. (or whoever signed on her behalf)). I'd already found the hidden one but it was still very nice. Shipped Aug. 22. Anyone else?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
