Checking in!
Planning on visiting in early Oct. and very excited about the new binding app option with full tuition. I understand it's new, but has anyone heard anything at all about it? Specifically, any hope for splitters?

Honestly I'd sincerely doubt that anyone below either median would get the full-ride ED. You could still get big money as a splitter, but this new option is definitely an attempt to get the best numbers they can early, and if you look at the GW full-ride ED for example, it usually goes out to people decently above both medians.golden44 wrote:Checking in!

Thanks. Good point and I agree it's very unlikely. Still really looking forward to the campus visit coming up soon! The way my schedule worked out I'll have a few hours to kill in the morning before my official visit/tour. Any recommendations on things to do/see near campus on a weekday morning? Good breakfast spots? I've been to STL a few times so somewhat familiar with the city, but this will be my first time to see campus and the surrounding area.

As a 1L, I believe the answer to all your questions will be found at this great little restaurant just north of campus called "Chipotle".golden44 wrote:The way my schedule worked out I'll have a few hours to kill in the morning before my official visit/tour. But for real, depends on what you want to do. Forest Park is immediately adjacent to the eastern edge of the university (Unfortunately on the opposite side of campus as the law school) and has a zoo, art museum, planetarium, and like 3-4 other free attractions to kill tons of time at. If you like a specific type of food I can give you a rec for a place within walking distance on Delmar by the loop.

Shhh don't get my hopes up for DC.sublime wrote:JerryLundegard wrote:If you are accepted ED it looks like you pay nothing in tuition either so that's a pretty sweet deal. Does a WUSTL JD hold water if you want to potentially live/practice on the East Coast?
My class (c/o 2016) seems to be doing relatively well for NYC biglaw, fwiw.
But if you want NYC or esp DC biglaw, you need to have pretty good grades, but I have also seen ties/other bumps help.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
I'd argue that the east coast is where WUSTL JD's hold water the best outside of Missouri. WUSTL 2L's have gotten offers up and down the "prestige" ladder in both NYC/DC (e.g. Cravath, Simpson Thacher, S&C, DPW, Paul Weiss, Kirkland, Proskauer in NYC from what i know and Covington/Skadden in DC). Granted they have good grades but it's not like it's top 5% or bust or something.JerryLundegard wrote:If you are accepted ED it looks like you pay nothing in tuition either so that's a pretty sweet deal. The biggest hurdle that you'll face as a WUSTL 2L going through OCI is getting in front of firms for screeners. Markets like NYC and DC interview lots of candidates from tons of schools, so those are easier to get access to. It's not necessarily that firms in other markets wouldn't respect a WUSTL J.D., it's that it doesn't make economic sense to actively recruit them by going to campus. It's not worth to travel when you're only going to hire maybe 1-2 kids max. If you're only looking at top X% of 200-300 kids then it's already a small pool. Then u adjust for market preferences among the students, which generally leans Midwest/Northeast. So it doesn't make a lot of sense for firms from other markets to spend time/money to send lawyers to St. Louis.
I think a WUSTL J.D. is portable as long as you have the grades and are smart about mass mailing (aka doing it early).
I will say that going to WUSTL because you think it'll give you better access to Chicago firms is probably a mistake unless you have ties to Chicago. Even then you'll need great grades. The major Chicago firms only really recruit from the Chicago Walk-Around, which WUSTL shares with other schools, and there are only 20-25 total preselect slots for all the participating schools. Certain firms like Winston/Perkins/Chapman will attend EIW. Kirkland does as well but they've only taken one WUSTL person in the past two cycles (I think he's IP). The Chicago market is significantly more competitive than NYC. If you're married to Chicago then probably better IMO to go to UIUC (assuming you don't have the NU/UChicago option).

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
Applied to WashUSTL last Tuesday regular decisions. They responded on Wednesday of that week (24 hours of app submission). They were pleased with my application and want me to schedule an interview, either in person or over skype. I got really happy with the news! Hopefully it's a great sign!
(Will be interviewing at STL next week)

Good luck! The interviews at WUSTL are pretty low-key and all of the adcomms are super friendly, so definitely don't stress about it or anything.itskevin wrote:Hopefully, and thanks for the support!

This describes me as well. Hoping my PT scores hold up for the real thing next week so that Wash U is a realistic option. I'm honestly pretty much Wash U or bust, unless I get the 1843 at SLU.
