I second this. Very annoying when people don't withdraw from wait lists of schools they wouldn't attend if accepted.SowhatsNU wrote:ManoftheHour wrote:Don't worry. I'll see you at Northwestern.SowhatsNU wrote:WL at:

I'm riding out waitlists at schools I wouldn't attend if simply accepted, but would attend with the right amount of money. I think that's the case with most on TLS who understand what not withdrawing means for others.JurisDoll wrote:I second this. But I agree that no one should ride a waitlist if they wouldn't attend at full scholly.

Re: I HEREBY PROCLAIM THAT I GOT OFF A WAITLIST (2014 Edition)
Unfortunately, I wish I had held one a little longer. I felt bad about holding one after getting another that I would attend instead. I withdrew fairly quickly. However, that's one less bargaining chip in negotiations (and possibly my only chip).BankruptMe wrote:What about those holding acceptances...That is the worst.
Same goes for WL. I withdrew from 3/6 waitlists at peer schools to my acceptance, but that cuts my chances in half of getting off any WL. Getting off a WL at a peer school I don't want to attend could work wonders for negotiation. Still, I felt bad about it and withdrew from all but 3 schools pretty early on (which I would attend if current school doesn't budge).
So, I hope my consideration doesn't cost me thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars. But it very well may. In these circumstances, I don't begrudge someone riding it out to the bitter end to ensure their situation is the best it could be.
We all want to attend for free and law schools would happily charge a million if they could fill a class. Keeping your options open (or appearing to) could get you closer to the former.

Re: I HEREBY PROCLAIM THAT I GOT OFF A WAITLIST (2014 Edition)
But how often will people who get accepted off the wait list be offered $$?
I mean isn't the thinking that waitlist is for those who are 2nd best (you know what I mean) and scholarship money is used to convince well qualified applicants to come to that school...
why would they offer you money off the waitlist when they could just take someone else off the waitlist who would be happy to pay sticker?

Happens all the time to many applicants at various schools. Many WL folks have >75/>75 stats (and many more above one 75th or both above median).SowhatsNU wrote:But how often will people who get accepted off the wait list be offered $$?

The schools will use the WL to make sure their 25/50/75 come out where they want them to and will pay money for it.

Do they expedite the scholly/finaid process, or?

Checking in. Just got off my first of 4 WL but still riding out my top 3 choices. I wish I knew my chances so I can deposit wisely...

Re: I HEREBY PROCLAIM THAT I GOT OFF A WAITLIST (2014 Edition)
Hi all -
As a current rider of waitlists, I was just wondering what exactly the protocol is for staying on them. Aside from the law school I am on the waitlist for, am I supposed to inform anyone else (for example, the school I deposited at)? I have this weird paranoia that I am going to do something wrong in the process, so I figured I'd ask some fellow waitlisters!
Thanks in advance.

Related Question: If youre on the waitlist for a school you currently attend and they want you to mail in a form accepting waitlist, would you show up to the admissions office to hand it in or mail it?

Lol. IDK, but I'd just hand it in. Seems kinda silly to have to mail it.Tennislover8 wrote:Related Question: If youre on the waitlist for a school you currently attend and they want you to mail in a form accepting waitlist, would you show up to the admissions office to hand it in or mail it?

No, you dont have to tell the school that you're on a waitlist. Once you get into your waitlist choice (considering its your first choice), you just immediately withdraw from the school you deposited.TheRealJoshuaLyman wrote:Hi all -

It's my understanding that no school, WL or otherwise, can compel you to deposit without first reviewing all financial aid information. I emailed UWash and they essentially confirmed this.Brettanomyces wrote:Don't some schools expect a quick response, though?Soco Law wrote:Happens all the time to many applicants at various schools. WL UGA & GA State. Already in at my top choice, University of Alabama, but the in state price at UGA/GA State may be worth the wait. I'm holding out until May 21st(my bday) then withdrawing if I've heard nothing

I am excited to report that I have been admitted off the NYU waitlist, which came as a huge surprise since I hadn't even sent in a LOCI.
