I have my fingers crossed. I am one of the ones who was waitlisted without an interview. I have submitted the additional materials suggested. This cycle seems to be moving slower than last years (or is it just me)?

I was waitlisted without an interview too, and I sent in a serious essay about UChicago being a good fit...so we'll see.

Has anyone who sent in the wait list essay received any response other than a terse "thank you for your continued interest"? I ♡ uchi but they don't seem to love me back :/

I went to visit last week (I'm in the area anyway) and the admissions lady I talked to made it seem like there was a chance of getting off the waitlist... but maybe that was just my desires coloring the truth.hk227 wrote:The person I spoke with said Chicago will accept "a few" applicants if and when seats become available, refusing to concretely say anything specific. Was WL w/o an interview. hoping for the best--currently spiffing up my why U Chi post-wl essay to send in later today. GL all!

Hmmm tough to say, but perhaps that sounds better than something like "we don't anticipate any movement" or whatever message UVA has been sending out.waiting_game wrote:I went to visit last week (I'm in the area anyway) and the admissions lady I talked to made it seem like there was a chance of getting off the waitlist... but maybe that was just my desires coloring the truth.hk227 wrote:The person I spoke with said Chicago will accept "a few" applicants if and when seats become available, refusing to concretely say anything specific. For those of you working on an essay for Uchicago, when did you get waitlisted? I thought the deadline for turning that in was a long time ago (like in April). Or does it differ depending on when they formally waitlist you?

Weird... my email says that the waitlist essay is due May 15... that might be because I got waitlisted in the April 22ish wave rather than earlier. I know that there were people who got waitlisted earlier so maybe that is why there were two due dates?
Do we have any idea when they will start admitting people off the waitlist based on what happened last year? I vaguely remember someone said there was a small wave in May last year?
but i might be thinking of a waitlist from another school

Re: Chicago Waitlist c/o 2017
People wait listed different days do have different essay due dates. I would guess since they are due today they will start reevaluating those applicants as well.
People who did not get an initial interview were offered interviews around this time last year. So there is the possibility if there is space that there will be interview requests. However, actual acceptance from the wait list were not until June (based on TLS). Also, with some movement on the Harvard wait list there maybe be openings soon if some deposited at Chicago.

Those dates sound right to me. I believe I got my interview request May 10 and got the admit toward the end of June. It might have officially been a few days into July but Dean Perry calls and confirms whether you'll attend a few days before the official offer comes. Kind of an implied JS2.
May 15 sounds really late for why Chicago. I didn't do one but iirc the deadline last year was 4/15. Which was not very long after I was waitlisted. Which is why I didn't write one.

Thank you so much for this post. I think I actually had something similar regarding the essay (Deadline of 4/15 and didn't have much time) and didn't send one in. It's comforting to find out that someone else was in a similar situation and got in.beepboopbeep wrote:Those dates sound right to me. Damn. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I've definitely been texting the term "gay" far more than I have been using the term "guy" (I am doing some LGBT work at the moment). Whatever the middle letter typo was, Android say fit to throw the A in there rather than U. Still funny though nonetheless.

After looking at last years thread this email was sent around May 8 last year with interview request coming in the following days. So if Chicago is following the same timeline it is possible some interview request may be coming up later this week.

Hope so!
Do we have a feel for how many people are on this waitlist and how many get accepted off it? I was just doing some speculating with my NU waitlist friends for our waitlist there.
Really hope the above quote is right -- I never had an interview and really want one! I think many of us are in that boat.

Interesting that they ask if you are planning to attend law school this year. Why would they want to ask that? Is anyone putting no? I was under the impression that waitlists are typically for filling this year's class...
Also, anyone putting anything into the comments box? I don't want to come off too aggressive lol.

I didn't put any comments. I couldn't think of anything I wanted to say that I hadn't said in the essay they requested.

To pass some of our waitlisted time, some good articles:
- http://www.lawschoolpodcaster.com/2010/ ... -waitlist/
Notable quotes:
"If we have doubts about somebody’s ability to thrive here as a student, then at Cornell Law School, at least, we’re going to deny them. We’re not going to put them on the waiting list."
"When choosing off the wait list, the Admissions Committee will likely pick someone who will jump at the chance to go. That means schools generally want to see your enthusiasm unless the wait listed school falls into the “Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You” group."
"Ann Levine says it is wise to contact the law school when your status changes, for whatever reason. “If you took on a new internship, you’re learning a new language. You spent the last three months traveling. Whatever it is, write a letter to the law school. Let them know. The update is important, it might show an aspect to your application, it might add to something that you didn’t initially share with the school, but it also just shows the school you haven’t forgotten about them."
"Being wait listed means that a school likes you, you’re competitive, you’re qualified, but that somebody else might be a bit more attractive or competitive. "
- http://law.clearadmit.com/2013/08/lsat- ... -now-what/
Notable quotes:
"Some waitlist letters fall into a grey area where it’s not clear whether or not additional materials are acceptable. In such cases, sending a letter is probably a good idea. However, you should call the school to see if they’re amenable to such action just to make sure."
"The important thing to remember about being on a waitlists is that you’re still in the running. Where there’s a waitlist, there’s hope."
