Re: Mercer 2013/14 Applicants
Just got done with my sit down with a Mercer scholarship rep. Looks like they're going to offer half tuition off the bat but are open to negotiating due to my other offers.

I'm curious about this meeting. Did you ask for it or did they? What kind of things were discussed? Just what they could offer or was it more interview-y?

I honestly wouldn't have looked at Mercer if they didn't contact me. They set everything up but it was more about what they had to offer kinda thingelideep wrote:Young Marino wrote:Just got done with my sit down with a Mercer scholarship rep. Whoa, got my scholarship offer and it is insultingly low. I got a much better offer from UGA so Mercer is officially off my list now. Not sure what's going on this cycle and last but they have really dropped off their scholly offers in the last two years.

I've heard that they're awarding more schollys this cycle but balancing that out with lesser award amountselideep wrote:Whoa, got my scholarship offer and it is insultingly low. I too received a low ball offer. I don't know if they're even worth negotiating with at this point.

I just got an unsolicited scholarship increase today, from $18k (which I was pretty much insulted by) to $25k, which still doesn't make Mercer a good option for me.

Does anyone know when you receive access to the "portal"? Is it after you pay the seat deposit or what? I was accepted on the 22nd but still do not have access

I was accepted back in November and still don't have access so I assume its probably after deposits are made.
Does anyone know when Woodruff Scholarship finalists are chosen/notified?

Whelp, I'm a Woodruff Finalist. I'll be interviewing March 7. Anyone else on here going to be there?

Congrats, me too! I got excited when I saw it was from Macon and even more excited when I heard the name of who was calling. Also not mad at all about them covering travel expenses!

Re: Mercer 2013/14 Applicants
Does anyone know if the status checker goes straight from "complete" to a decision? or is there an "in review" stage? I've been showing "complete" since 1/31. Just wondering if there is another step in there before I can expect a decision. Of the 4 schools I applied to, 2 had an "in review" stage. The other one went straight to accepted from complete.

I shall be withdrawing soon. I wish there was a option to distribute my scholly $$ to my fellow TLSers haha

Congrats to all the recent acceptances and Woodruff finalists. I was a Woodruff recipient (or "Woody" as one professor called us) and am happy to chat about the experience.

Hey thanks! Can you tell us a bit about the interview? Do you remember what kinds of questions they asked?

Re: Mercer 2013/14 Applicants
Absolutely. I should preface this by saying my interview was 5-10 years ago, so it's possible things have changed. There were two interviews lasting 15 minutes each with panels of 3-4 professors/practitioners. Questions were fairly innocuous and ones you might expect: why law school, why Mercer in particular, do you know what you want to do after law school? They also asked about what I did for a job on my resume, and they asked a question or two about my personal statement. You could get an alumnus who asks some more straightforward or unexpected questions -- that happened a year or two after I interviewed. I don't remember exactly what was asked, but it gave me a bad impression of the alumnus. In that regard, the questions asked will probably depend on who is interviewing you. I would also be prepared for the "do you have any questions for us" question--try to think of something to ask that isn't already answered by reviewing the website.elideep wrote:Hey thanks! Thanks so much! That's very helpful information. One more thing: Do you remember how long it took you to be notified that you'd won the Woody?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
