Are you guys just now hearing back or did this happen earlier in the day? I'm giving up on hearing anything at this point.

Not sure when the status checker updated, but I missed the voicemail at about 5pm Eastern time.TheJanitor6203 wrote:Are you guys just now hearing back or did this happen earlier in the day? I'm giving up on hearing anything at this point.

For those of you familiar with the Texas market, how we'll does SMU place in San Antonio for those wanting to work there? I don't have very strong ties right now, but I used to live there and still do have some good friends in the area. Is it pretty much dominated by UT + St. Mary's/UH/Baylor, or would an SMU grad have a shot?
If I end up at SMU (the only school I applied to in Texas), my preference would be: San Antonio>Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin>>Houston, OKC>>small town Texas.

I hear it does okay in San Antonio. Obviously UT does better but TX schools will do well in TX. You might look at firms that you are interested in and see where their attorneys come from. I have a feeling Dallas' SMU outperforms San Antonio's SMU, even in San Antonio. Even so you'll likely want to target Dallas too.
Also in. (3.35-3.4/170) Got a call from their office yesterday afternoon. Surprised they actually call, but no email. Also, my admitted student page login doesn't work. What??

San Antonio is a very small market with not a lot of available jobs to anyone.

Thanks for the input. And congrats!hayman wrote:I hear it does okay in San Antonio. Obviously UT does better but TX schools will do well in TX. I know it's a small market, but not much smaller than some of the other markets I'm looking at. And I'd be happy in Dallas and other Texas cities if SA didn't work out. Most of my "backup" Texas cities are preferable to my top choices in other states.kalvano wrote:San Antonio is a very small market with not a lot of available jobs to anyone.
That being said, would you say SMU grads tend to be on even footing with the non-UT schools for SA?

Congrats to everyone! Got my call yesterday as well. I couldn't get the admitted student login to work, either, but substituted a '14' for the '13' in the password and it worked.LSBound2017 wrote:I couldn't get mine to work either!hayman wrote:I hear it does okay in San Antonio. So we were ED applicants simply by virtue of applying early? Because I don't remember clicking anything specific on the LSAC site regarding ED to SMU, although I might have. Can we expect generous scholarships because of this?

Don't know about scholarships, but yes - anyone who submitted by 1-Nov went in the ED pool. Like you, I didn't see anything in the LSAC application where you chose ED or RD, so I just emailed the admissions department.grungy89 wrote:So we were ED applicants simply by virtue of applying early? I think they will wonder why a Dallas bigshot from SMU wants to come down to San Antonio. SMU has a bit of an uppity perception. So you'll need a story or a good reason. But if you have that, I don't see why SMU wouldn't do well there.AT9 wrote:I know it's a small market, but not much smaller than some of the other markets I'm looking at. Re: SMU C/O 2017 (2013-2014 Applicants)
wow, people are already hearing back. That's exciting, I was told SMU is incredibly slow.
Have they been this fast in past years or is it due to the lower amount of applicants?
Kalvano,
I read in last years thread that you drove from flower mound... how was the drive and do you feel like it affected your studies in anyway? (ie. drive time cutting into studying) I'll be driving from prosper so it'll be quite a commute for me too.

Re: SMU C/O 2017 (2013-2014 Applicants)
Nah, it was fine. I study better at home so that worked fine for me. The drive kind of sucked 1L with early classes. You'll have to leave pretty early, but after 1L you can structure classes to make the drive way easier.
The only issue I really had was finding a 24-hour copy shop to bind my 1L brief. That sucked. Otherwise, these school is easy to get to and, bonus, you can avoid a lot of the law school drama by not being there a lot.

Nothing here yet. I'm trying not to get my hopes up for tomorrow, in case the packets didn't get into the mail until today.reh wrote:Anyone hear about scholarships yet? I'm hoping my packet comes tomorrow!

I was told the packet was being mailed Monday morning...keep in mind Monday was Veteran's day and there was no mail service, so I'm preparing myself for Friday/Saturday.
Also, if you're admitted FT, do they ever let you enter the PT program if your personal situation changes? I never seriously considered PT, but a recent job offer (or rather, job extension) has made me think otherwise.
