Re: Chicago c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
About resume, I might be submitting a two-page resume, after I read this on the website, http://www.law.uchicago.edu/node/1478
Any thoughts?
Later, it mentioned thatMay I submit a resume that is more than one page?
Your resume may be more than one page. We do not want you to leave out anything important and you can go into more detail than you would in a typical resume for employment (use your judgment though; very rarely does one need more than 2-3 pages).
So I decide to expand my resume for work a little bit. There is no required format, but your resume should look professional in the same way that it would if you were applying for a job (though resumes for law school applications are often more detailed).
Any thoughts?

On personal statements, for those worrying about font size, etc,
Link: http://www.law.uchicago.edu/prospective ... lstatementIs there a page limit on my personal statement?
There is no page limit, but we generally find 2-3 pages to be sufficient in most circumstances. If it is longer, make sure that it is absolutely necessary and really interesting. We do not have any formatting rules with respect to spacing, font type, font size, or margins.

It won't make or break you either way, so just do whatever you feel will give you the least anxiety lol.NapoleonXV wrote:About resume, I might be submitting a two-page resume, after I read this on the website, http://www.law.uchicago.edu/node/1478

FWIW, mine was a pretty full two pages, and I got in. I definitely had legit stuff to fill the two pages, though. If what you're going to put on it belongs there, I doubt very much this would be a problem. I wouldn't include superfluous stuff, though (not that you're planning to). Good luck!NapoleonXV wrote:About resume, I might be submitting a two-page resume, after I read this on the website, http://www.law.uchicago.edu/node/1478

I feel like my chances were better on the last version lolThe-Specs wrote:Law School Predictor 5.0 just came out this morning.
It looks to be a inaccurately optimistic as it was before...but at least it makes me feel good.
Also, it has Harvard's 75th percentile LSAT score wrong as well as both the 25th and 75th at Stanford...oops. Enjoy!

I wouldn't rely on law school predictor for anything. LSN is my jam.

Thanks for the input Regulus.Regulus wrote:Man... this is weird to see the next round of applications starting already.May I submit a diversity statement or “Why Chicago” essay?
You may, but please do so only when they are important to your application. Please remember that you want to be concise and genuine.
We believe that the personal statement is a wonderful place to discuss any aspects of your background (e.g., racial, ethnic, or religious identification, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, etc.) that are significant to you. If you find that you cannot include these topics in your personal statement, you may submit an additional diversity statement.
If there are genuine and informed reasons why you are particularly interested in studying law at Chicago, you are welcome to discuss them in an additional essay.
Just to answer a few of your questions:
I did not submit any extra essays with my UChicago application, although I really wanted to. There was someplace on their website last year that specifically recommended not sending in extraneous materials; it also stated that applicants should include their "Why X?" statements in their personal statement if they had a specific reason for wanting to attend UChicago.
Also, I know several people who got in without putting the specific number of hours worked on their resumes, but I listed the hours on mine just to be safe.
Regarding the question about which other schools you applied to, on last year's application it asked: "Are you applying, or have you applied, to other law schools? If so, please list them." As you will notice, it doesn't say list all of them, so I only wrote the ones that were lower ranked than UChicago on the USNWR (again, just to be safe).
Lastly, I got a merit-based fee waiver on September 4th last year with a < 25th percentile LSAT & > Median GPA, so I am pretty sure that the hurdle isn't very high for receiving one.
I can't seem to find the statement that specifically recommends not sending extraneous materials, other than the one about being genuine and concise. My reasons don't really fit in my personal statement, so I've been going back and forth on whether to submit a very brief addendum outlining some very practical (no BS about "rigor") reasons why Chicago is such a good fit for me. Anyone have thoughts on this?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
