I'm going to ASD on the 17th. Cardozo is a big contender for me since they gave me a full ride, plus I love New York. I'm excited!

Was accepted w/ a 18k/yr scholarship a few weeks ago. I'm on the fence about Cardozo. While 54k is generous, it doesn't put much of a dent in an overall high tuition price tag (not to mention living in an incredibly expensive city). Can anyone in a similar boat comment?

Received a $25K merit scholarship two weeks ago...while going to school in NYC would be nice, $25K doesn't put much of a dent in Cardozo's $50K p/y price tag. The COL alone will add another $70K+. Does anybody know if Cardozo is willing to negotiate on scholarships? Maybe I could use my $30K p/y scholarship at Temple as leverage (I'm an OOS at Temple)?

I would definitely bring it up. No one has been denied admish for bargaining a scholarship.devsfan428 wrote:Received a $25K merit scholarship two weeks ago...while going to school in NYC would be nice, $25K doesn't put much of a dent in Cardozo's $50K p/y price tag. Can anyone post pictures of The Alabama apartments? There aren't any normal sized pictures online.

Got in with full scholarship for all three years. 3.5/166. I got a phone call but missed it because I was working.
I would love to go to school in NY, (still waiting to hear back from Fordham) and Cardozo has some great programs that I actually wrote about in my essay. However I was wondering if anybody else was worried that Cardozo only has 54% of it's grads employed as lawyers (once you subtract the school funded positions).
Any Cardozo 2Ls/3Ls/Grads have some words of wisdom for us?

How soon after going under review did people hear back? I have been UR since 1/17 and I am getting worried because I thought I would have good enough numbers for an easy admit with a scholarship. But now I am reading this thread as people with numbers below mine getting full rides and I still haven't heard. I would really love a shot to go here.

Yeah, I find this scary too. Also, living in NYC is super expensive.philipthegreat wrote:Got in with full scholarship for all three years. 3.5/166. I got a phone call but missed it because I was working.

I've been UR since November and when I called they said it's really a toss up on when you'll hear back. Similar numbers to others who were admitted too. And there are people on LSN who are in the same boat....I just want to hear back alreadybuffalo_ wrote:How soon after going under review did people hear back? Does anyone have an empty check box next to "Future LSAT Registration?" I am not taking another LSAT. Do I need to contact YU?

I have the same thing. I've called about my application before and they said everything was good to go and okay.buffalo_ wrote:Does anyone have an empty check box next to "Future LSAT Registration?" I am not taking another LSAT. Do I need to contact YU?

That box would be checked if you WERE planning to take the Feb LSAT, not if you are unregistered. Mine was originally checked (I'm retaking on Saturday), but I requested to have my application reviewed as-is so they removed it and then it went complete. You're all set, and good luck!buffalo_ wrote:Does anyone have an empty check box next to "Future LSAT Registration?" I am not taking another LSAT. Do I need to contact YU?

I was UR since Nov until I heard back from them last week. I believe it when they say it's a toss up - some people on the forum heard back a couple of weeks after applying.llamall wrote:I've been UR since November and when I called they said it's really a toss up on when you'll hear back. Yep, know that Cardozo's Biglaw placement isn't great (at all), and that most people who go into firms (of those who do) go into medium/small firms. The other portion of grads who get legal jobs post-grad are PI/Gov't.philipthegreat wrote:Any Cardozo 2Ls/3Ls/Grads have some words of wisdom for us?
A more general observation (true of many law schools outside, probably, the T-5) is that a good chunk of the class doesn't belong in law school as it is, and tend to make up a good percentage of the class who does not gain legal employment. By that I mean the person who went to law school "just because," or isn't acutely aware of the realities of getting a job ITE.
You've got a good start with the full ride (that's what I took too), but I'd start saving now for COL or have another plan for that. Oh, and speaking of COL, do not live in the dorm. It's stupid expensive, and a solid week/weekend of searching in Brooklyn, Queens, or uptown will net you a much a cheaper option (provided you have roommates).

Accepted via phone call (212 area code) with full scholly for all 3 years (The Monrad Paulsen Scholarship?).
Very grateful for the acceptance and the offer. It will be well worth considering as I wait to hear back from other schools.
Numbers on LSN (same user name).
PS - It seems from other posts ITT that calls generally go out at the end of the day 4-6 PM eastern time. Just FYI.

Has anyone tried negotiating scholarship increases with Cardozo?

Cardozo is VERY willing to negotiate if you attack with the right technique. I pretty much followed the advice on this article --> http://lawschooladvice.com/guides/negot ... olarships/ and ended up with a full rideacfd wrote:Has anyone tried negotiating scholarship increases with Cardozo?
Cardozo has a lot of money they're willing to dish it out to students who work for it. The worst that can happen is they simply say no.

Don't believe so. New York is known for being quite expensive.buffalo_ wrote:Does Cardozo ever happen to offer a living stipend?szb5058 wrote:Cardozo is VERY willing to negotiate if you attack with the right technique. Saw the USPS dude carrying a huge thing of acceptance packets earlier today, but he dropped half of them on the ice/slush covered sidewalk on the way to his truck. Some of y'all might be receiving some soggy admissions letters.

Re: Cardozo C/O 2017 Applicants Thread (2013 - 2014 Cycle)
Hey guys, so I finally got the call! I'm in the May start program. I got a 15k offer too with no percentile stips. I read the article about negotiating that's been posted above. I personally really do feel lucky to have gotten in but the total COA is making this a tough decision for me. The articles mentions to negotiate if either of your GPA or LSAT is above the median and my LSAT definitely is (even above the 75th%) but my GPA probably is 5th percentile or lower. I've also heard the May program students don't really receive too much aid. Anyways, what do you guys think I could do and do you have any advice on specific negotiation tips for Cardozo?
Edit: the percentiles I'm using here are the numbers from the full time program.
