I just assumed 173/3.8 is either URM or Amazing Softs. Is that unwarranted?Dr. Dre wrote:what makes you think she/he is URM?t-14orbust wrote:Are you URM? Neither is necessarily the case. Non-URM applicants do get in here with median and below-median stats even without special softs. A combination of an exceptional PS and 250 and tremendous LORs can be enough.t-14orbust wrote:I just assumed 173/3.8 is either URM or Amazing Softs. Is that unwarranted?

The topic itself is far less important than what you do with it.t-14orbust wrote:I'm hoping that's me. I think it's actually easier to write first and settle on the topic later. Think of three to five subjects in different subject categories (i.e., not three to five academic-themed subjects). Then just start taking some notes and writing out ideas for each of them. See if any of these ideas start developing into something promising. If necessary, take some notes on new subjects as they come to mind. Much more than forcing yourself into a particular topic before writing, this approach will allow you to more easily land on the subject where you actually have the most thoughtful and interesting things to say.

Wouldn't you call "an exceptional PS and 250 and tremendous LORs" special softs?Ti Malice wrote:Neither is necessarily the case. In this case by special softs we were referring to rhodes/olympic medalist/astronaut/bestselling author/playboy modelLexLeon wrote:Wouldn't you call "an exceptional PS and 250 and tremendous LORs" special softs?Ti Malice wrote:Neither is necessarily the case. Good luck bros. Applying to Yale is a hell of a ride. Let me know if you have questions that I may or may not be able to answer.
