I'm a little confused by all this waitlisting business. It seems odd that they haven't really handed out too many acceptances, but they're handing out waitlists.csargean wrote:waitlisted via snail mail. 167/3.5 for those interested. Wow. I guess thats consistent across the board then. I'm a little surprised for both of us. I've already been accepted to a few schools in the top 25, but maybe Davis isn't as gpa friendly. Best of luck making it off the list!Attax wrote:WL as well, 168/2.75csargean wrote:waitlisted via snail mail. 167/3.5 for those interested. Accepted via email 1/25. First school I've heard from. As a "reverse splitter" (160/3.87), I was a little surprised they made this decision in a little over a month. I am, however, an untraditional applicant with really compelling softs. Good luck to everyone!

Pleasantly surprised to receive my acceptance today! I submitted all of my apps pretty late on the 23rd and it really shocked me that Davis finalized a decision in just 7 days. 166/3.95; good luck to the rest of you!

oh my god. this is killing me. I've been under evaluaion for almost a month. My GPA isn't as strong as yours, so I guess thats it. REALLY DAVIS? REALLY? It's taking this long? Even UC Berkeley has communicated with me better than Davis. Excuse my rant.ReverseViceVersa wrote:Pleasantly surprised to receive my acceptance today! Well my app has been sitting there since October 30 or so, but it's been under evaluation since the beginning of January. I must admit I have a love-hate relationship with UC Davis as an alumnus.Snowboarder1588 wrote:Congrats on getting in! Umm...did you say 1 month? Coming from LA, I assume rent is relatively reasonable. Do you know the most popular living arrangements for someone at UC Davis (e.g. grad school housing? shared apartment? renting out a house with a couple people?) and the respective price range? Also, do you need a car? I hear Davis is very bike friendly but also pretty spread out.w7ldcard wrote:I have lived in Davis most of my life so if you have any questions feel free to ask away!

Davis is pretty expensive for housing. Depending on what your arrangements are going to be you will be looking at $500 - $700 to share an apartment. There is a housing search service through the University that allows you to find housing dedicated to students.bkegslounge wrote:Coming from LA, I assume rent is relatively reasonable. You are going to get the most bang for your buck not living in an apartment complex. If you plan on bringing a car don't live in University Village.
Bikes are great in Davis so you don't need a car if you are okay with getting a little wet in the winter time.

Re: UC Davis c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
I just want to second everything said above. It's more expensive to live there than you'd expect. Apartments right next to campus rip people off. For being in the central valley, the housing cost is ridiculous. Compared to L.A., it will seem cheap though. I'm from San Diego, and I went to UG at UC Davis. I used to get angry paying that much for a place in a small city in the middle of nowhere, far away from the ocean. The extra $100-$200 you'd pay in San Diego near the beach seems worth it to me. However, I lived in a house in Davis for two years and paid $550 for a small, single room (then add on utilities, water bas sewer, internet, etc). I paid less than a lot of my friends.w7ldcard wrote:Davis is pretty expensive for housing. Grad housing doesn't really exist. There is some grad/housing for families, but families are prioritized. There are some privatized on campus apartments, but those are really expensive and very hard to get. I used to work for Student Housing, so I'm pretty familiar with the university housing situation. Sharing a house with a couple other people seems to be the most cost-effective method (and the most fun really).
Your best bet for getting to campus is biking or taking Unitrans, the UC Davis student run bus line. It's extremely convenient for getting to campus. It's free for undergrads but not for grad students. It's pretty cheap though. Cars are really convenient for getting around the City of Davis, but they're not necessary. Parking passes for cars on-campus are really expensive. I had a car while in Davis, but I used the bus/bike method to get to campus everyday. It's actually quicker than being stuck in traffic and then finding somewhere to park and then walking to your class.
