Take your time bud. Some of us splitters would give anything to redo college for that GPA, and because we haven't found the right hot tub to go back in time and apply ourselves, YET, we have to strongly consider applying ED. Our decision is easy because there's very few schools willing to dip below 3.3. You don't have that luxury; your decision is much more complicated, and if you're patient, diligent, and efficient, at prepping for the LSAT, you could be looking at scholarship money whereas we are just hoping for an acceptance phone call. Of course, according to UVA, ED candidates are weighed on the same scale as regular applicants for the purposes of scholarship awards, however, they have the power to award you nothing and if you ED, you'll be at their mercy. So weigh your options and consider your opportunity costs accordingly.

Definitely #3 realistic choices behind Harvard and Columbia.

DD, good to see you here. General warning: As for the drink off, I have studied with DD and his 172 in June was an abberation. Every challenger better buckle-up (I certainly wouldn't take him on).

What makes you like UVA more than like NYU or Chicago? I ask because I haven't done any research on UVA yet and I want to hear about its advantages, not because I doubt those advantages exist. Also, checking in.

^ Okay, sounds like a solid plan. You basically mirrored my thoughts about my senior rater. We have a surprisingly high amount of interaction, but I still agree with you. It might not come across that way when it is a letter read by an ADCOMM from a COL about a CPT.

That is a fair question. Chicago is out for me almost completely on the basis of location. I don't want to be in the midwest and less in the city of Chicago. On top of that I have the blessing of having a beautiful wife and I would like to keep her as far from the south-side of Chicago as possible (quickly preparing for the vehement defense of the city of Chicago and the contention that it is not as lawless as perception says).

NYU is mostly out becuase if I am going to pay the NYC cost of living I want to be at the best law school in the city and in my mind that is Columbia. As an addendum to that, every indication points to me getting into both schools (mylsn, Law school Predictor, etc) so I don't think I will have the issue of having the offer from one and not the other. The other strike against NYU is that I am very interested in clerkships, especially those of the Supreme Court variety. This is one of the reasons that not getting into a T3 would be so rough for my career goals but that is beside the point. UVA has an awesome Supreme Court Litigation Clinic and is the fourth best SCOTUS placement since 2005 (ahead of Chicago, Columbia, NYU, Penn, and everyone else).

All of that being said money is also a huge factor so outside of the T3 scholarship offers are going to be a big deal so those could change everything.

When I went the the LSAC forum in DC (July 20) and I talked to the admissions person she just gave me one. I'm not in state. I think as freely as she was handing them out, you should call and request it.
