Does anyone know when the non-merit scholarship deposit deadline is for NU? I'm guessing thats when us held kids will get re-reviewed.

Re: Held at Northwestern 2016
I think it's April 30th. Not 100% sure.
I think NU will start re-reviewing us held applicants (at least some) next week though. I got an email from UVA today saying that they will begin re-reviewing wait list ppl next week. Even though they don't expect to give out decisions until May because UVA doesn't have the whole 'hold' thing.

Yah it does look like they're giving out a lot of money to those with high LSAT scores. They gave me 90K for a 170.Magnalum wrote:I know the question was asked a while ago, but I am yet another splitter going to Minnesota if NU doesn't work out (or the other T14 waitlists). Minnesota is giving out some crazy scholarships. I saw on LSN that someone with a 171/2.66 got 105K. Jealous.
But I think ultimately I'm going with WUSTL. Anyone thinking of transferring after their first year if none of their dream schools work out?

Because as a splitter with WE, waiting and retaking won't up my chances either.TripTrip wrote:...you're just straight up planning to transfer? Why are you even on this thread? You're not a hold applicant and you already withdrew from NU.

You shouldn't go into law school expecting to transfer up.pammie0415 wrote:Because as a splitter with WE, waiting and retaking won't up my chances either.TripTrip wrote:...you're just straight up planning to transfer? I don't know your exact stats, but have you thought of EDing to UVA? http://www.mylsn.info/7sixoa

I'm not expecting to. But I'm willing to keep that open as an option too if it comes up. Schools do take a certain number of transfer students each year. So if it happens, then great. If not, oh well.Jaqen wrote:

Re: Held at Northwestern 2016
Because transfer applicants are evaluated on their 1L grades, recommendations, and program rigor. LSAT and GPA don't matter at that point. I think Harvard is the only school that says if you didn't have a shot entering for 1L, you won't have a shot transferring for 2L.TripTrip wrote:...you're just straight up planning to transfer? I'll likely start at UT with the intention of transferring to a more accessible city, but if first term grades aren't stellar, I'd be happy graduating from there. Helpful article about transferring law schools from this blog: http://www.top-law-schools.com/advice-f ... rring.html

I just withdrew from my last option (WUSTL), so it's either a northwestern miracle or retake/reapply for me. It feels great to finally have a plan!

I saw that you're not expecting to transfer. That's all I wanted to see. It's just a shame when a 1L starts going to a school fully expecting to be at a different school after their first year and finds out that there's a good possibility that won't happen. As long as you're comfortable with the school you start attending, you'll be fine.

Haha. Well, I suppose those of us on this thread should give you a big thank you for withdrawing. Maybe one of us can get your spot!!TripTrip wrote:

I'm perfectly aware of the unpredictable nature of being able to transfer or not. But if I can't get into my dream school directly, I definitely want to try to get in it another way if possible
I saw that there's some movement over on the main thread. Anyone heard anything?

Dude, aside from it being unpreditable (and unlikely), it's just poor form to speak about it in this thread and at this time. Wait until you get your first set of grades back, dawg.pammie0415 wrote:Haha. Well, I suppose those of us on this thread should give you a big thank you for withdrawing. Um, clearly because it's insulting to NU and speaks openly about using them as a middleman In a forum for people who would just be happy to get in. It's clearly a bit tactless, that has to go acknowledged.

I would respectfully disagree. Transferring amongst law schools is a well-known and well-used(both by law schools and law students) phenomena. According to the post below, Columbia uses transfer students to get 50% of the tuition revenue of their class.
http://insidethelawschoolscam.blogspot. ... -game.html
Therefore the expectations around which people form their responses should take this into account. Saying "I'd love to go to school X" shouldn't be taken to mean all of the following
a) I would love to start as a 1L at school X'; and
b) I would love to attend school X for my 2nd and 3rd year ; and
c) I will express my undying loyalty to school X forever.
In my opinion, only statement a) should be expected. It's not "using" a school to attend and transfer, that's what the school losing your tuition revenue would like to have you think.

Re: Held at Northwestern 2016
It's not about not wanting to transfer or not gunning for it; nobody cares about that and nobody would fault someone for wanting that if they do. But expecting to transfer, planning to transfer, and discussing it when you're held or reserved or WL'ed at the school you're talking about transferring from is crass. It's not the thread for it and it is hardly the time for it. It shows a lack of understanding about what it takes to transfer but more importantly, it demonstrates a lack of class and respect.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
