The USNWR 2014 rankings are out and Hofstra has dropped from #89 to #113. That is a HUGE drop. What are your thoughts? Is anyone going to rethink their decision to attend?

UM. Yeah I saw that as well. Especially that their 2013 #89 spot was -5 from their 2012 #84. They offered me $40k/yr (with top 1/3rd stip), but that number would have to rise even to sway me to a school that's plummeted 29 spots in 2 yrs...coffeeaddict wrote:The USNWR 2014 rankings are out and Hofstra has dropped from #89 to #113. Damn they really fell hard in the rankings. I guess my decision depends on whether I get the fellowship or not.

Same offer here... The stipulation is terrible and I would not attend even with a full ride if the stip is not removedCMJdoeslawschool wrote:UM. Yeah I saw that as well. Current Hofstra 3L. It's going to get worse before it gets better. Don't go. But that being said if you cannot stay well above top 1/3 at any TT or TTT you shouldn't go to law school plain and simple.CMJdoeslawschool wrote:Exactly.patienunderstanding wrote:Same offer here... What makes you say that it will get worse? Are there specific things that you've experienced while there? Is there areas that continue to lack? Or are you generalizing due to poor employment rates and over saturation of attorneys in that area? Please elaborate on your thoughts and experiences at Hofstra. Thanks.

Well to start, OCI is deplorable at Hofstra. The lacking quantity and quality of employers that attend Hofstra OCI is what contributes to its awful employment prospects. Also, in response to the approx 30% across the board decline in law school applications in recent years, Hofstra chose to maintain their quota of admitted students each year and simply delve lower into the pool of applicants. I don't mean to disparage recently admitted students but this is a fact. Lastly, professors and administrative faculty are leaving Hofstra in droves for positions at other schools (approx. 6-7 top faculty members in the past two years).
