Re: SMU c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
Hi there. New poster here!
I am currently looking into SMU Law as a possibility for Fall 2013.
Does anyone have any idea or history on how they have handled late applications? I have been studying for the LSAT for over a year now, and just now decided to take the plunge to see if it is possible to actually go back to school. I would have to take my LSAT on Feb 9. The regular decision dates are all Feb 15. It says they still consider late applications though.
Here are my 2 questions:
Do I have a shot at all if I apply late? In other words, am I just throwing my money in the trash if I apply after the date? I have no preference over FT/PT program since I currently live and work in Dallas. PT program may actually be preferred so that I can continue working.
Is it even an option to take my LSAT on Feb 9, have the application submitted by the 15th. Am I still under consideration at that point or would it be more of a very late decision at that point considering when scores come back?
For reference - I also did my undergrad at SMU. 3.2 GPA and I had a half ride in scholarships from them. Also my rec letters will all be from extremely seasoned attorneys (well known TX monthly lawyers, judges, etc), some with connections to SMU through my dad's colleagues. I doubt that matters but throwing it out there because you never know with SMU in my experience

Got my official admissions packet today, but there was no mention of a scholarship. I asked Dean Lichteig and she said they start submitting scholarship offers to admitted students toward the end of January.
Since it can take up to a month to have the scores released, it might be a little too late for even SMU. I would contact Admissions if you still really want to go and think you have a decent shot.WhitneyB wrote:Do I have a shot at all if I apply late? I'm a 2L and I have a friend from my 1L section who went to USC for undergrad. I can get you his email if you want to ask Trojan-specific questions.bgoodrick wrote: I go to school at USC

Thanks! I'll contact them tomorrow to see how they feel about having the rest of the application materials in before the deadline and then getting the Feb LSAT score.JakeAsch wrote:Got my official admissions packet today, but there was no mention of a scholarship. A couple of years ago, I took the LSAT for the first time in February and made it in that Fall. I sent my application before the deadline without an LSAT score. They called me about mid-March with an acceptance.WhitneyB wrote:Hi there. New poster here!

I talked to the admissions people and they said taking the Feb LSAT is fine. She advised to go ahead and submit your app asap. This is the route I'm taking so keeping my fingers crossed.WhitneyB wrote:Hi there. New poster here!

How long did it take for them to send everyone a status checker email? It's only been a couple of days but I haven't heard anything. I'm mostly curious because I forgot to attach an addendum to my app and I was wondering if I should just email them now or wait until they've sent me the status checker email.

It took one day for me. Some schools do not return to work until the 7th so that may be why.mg7 wrote:How long did it take for them to send everyone a status checker email? They didn't start back again until the 2nd, and I'm sure they had a lot to go over.

Admitted via status checker today! Wasnt expecting to hear till Februrary, looks like SMU is way faster in getting decisions out this cycle.

I believe on the call they said that scholarship information wouldn't be out until later in January or February, but I could be wrong. For all I know, I have a full ride waiting in my mailbox for me at school (wouldn't that be awesome)TheRedBlueBerry wrote:In yesterday via status checker!
