Re: Emory class of 2016 (2012-2013 cycle)
My application went complete all the way back on 9/13...still nothing to report.
I've got to say, they don't care much for correspondence. I emailed them in August about a fee waiver, and I got a response that simple said "Yes. ######". No signature or anything.
Oh well! I guess we will all know after February. Good luck!

Wow, Emory just emailed me. They're holding for my December score.
Has anybody tried requesting that they not wait for a future score? My current score is solid for Emory and I don't want to miss out on the chance at $$$.

Emory doesn't even release decisions until February anyway, and i don't think scholarship considerations are made around then either. So you might as well just wait for your december score, you could get MORE scholarship and you're gonna end up waiting until February-ish anyway. I don't see any harm in waiting for your score =)North wrote:Wow, Emory just emailed me. They're holding for my December score.

Yeah, you're right. I really didn't want to bother them anyway. Just to add a little back-up to this, I applied to Emory in mid-Jan last year and got a scholly easily. Holding for the score is NBD.North wrote:Yeah, you're right. I also received the email regarding waiting for the December LSAT score. This may be a stupid question but..... how are updated scores reported to the "applied to schools"? Automatically updated or do we have to initiate the contact? My email message noted the option of not waiitng for the December results but I do need a better score.

Schools request an updated LSAC report after the December scores are released, and LSAC sends them the updated report that includes the new score. You don't have to do anything

FYI- they give out schollys well into July. I know of at least 3 1Ls this year who got partial scholarships in July.timeandspace11 wrote:Probably not until February.bgoodrick wrote:when do you think decisions will start to be made? Waiting on both Emory and UGA at this point

Am I the only one that occasionally forgets I applied to this school because it lacks a status checker?

not only that but from what it sounds like, we'll be waiting awhile to hear anything, so its not even really on my radar right nowmatthewsean85 wrote:Am I the only one that occasionally forgets I applied to this school because it lacks a status checker?

Re: Emory class of 2016 (2012-2013 cycle)
From the way the email reads, it seems like a mass exodus of acceptance, WL and reject emails come the early spring, can it really be like that? That doesn't seem functional in the nature of law school admissions.bgoodrick wrote:not only that but from what it sounds like, we'll be waiting awhile to hear anything, so its not even really on my radar right nowmatthewsean85 wrote:Am I the only one that occasionally forgets I applied to this school because it lacks a status checker?

But really, everything I'm learning about Emory's admissions process seems like an education in how not to do things. Not offering a rolling admissions format must make it more difficult for them to lock down good students.. Some folks will have already heard acceptance and scholarship info months before Emory even releases decisions. Can't imagine that's good for yield.
Then again, what do we know? Just potential 0Ls.

Yep, I seem to have no problems doing my daily status checks on all the other schools, but I always forget about this one until I come to the forum.matthewsean85 wrote:Am I the only one that occasionally forgets I applied to this school because it lacks a status checker?

How many candidates do you think they lose because of this process? It might not be substantial, but it has to be a couple, right? Especially losing applicants to UGA and GA State, I'd imagine.jrstephens1991 wrote:Yep, I seem to have no problems doing my daily status checks on all the other schools, but I always forget about this one until I come to the forum.matthewsean85 wrote:Am I the only one that occasionally forgets I applied to this school because it lacks a status checker?

Having no status checker is a really bad idea for neurotic law school applicants

Re: Emory class of 2016 (2012-2013 cycle)
That certainly wouldnt be surprising. They still seem to get students with strong numbers, but I feel like they may help themselves by having a more efficient admissions process.matthewsean85 wrote:How many candidates do you think they lose because of this process? On the other hand since it seems like they admit so late and give $$$ late into the process they may be able to get higher caliber applicants from the December test takers.

Re: Emory class of 2016 (2012-2013 cycle)
I applied to Emory last year in addition to other T-20 schools. I withdrew my app from Emory before I even heard from them cuz I already had enough offers from other schools that I was comfortable withdrawing. Ironically I ended up withdrawing all of my offers to reapply..but that's a different story lol.matthewsean85 wrote:How many candidates do you think they lose because of this process? But yeah I can imagine that they lose a non-negligible (does that even make sense?) number of applicants by waiting to release decisions until the spring.

Re: Emory class of 2016 (2012-2013 cycle)
I'd imagine quite a few. Especially since UGA's status process is alot more straight-forward, and if you're a Georgia resident, the inconvenience that Emory's inconsistency causes is added to the fact that you would be paying less than half for tuition going to UGA that has an equally strong rep in the Atlanta market.matthewsean85 wrote:How many candidates do you think they lose because of this process? Re: Emory class of 2016 (2012-2013 cycle)
I will want to rebuttal this purely on a number comparison. I know UGA has a common rolling admissions process and people tend to start getting letters around Turkey time (as did I this year). UGA, however, took a huge hit this year in their yield. Emory's yield this year was 8 seats more than 2011, while UGA's yield was 36 seats less than 2011. I just verified my UGA numbers to their own website for the entering class of 2012 (http://www.law.uga.edu/class-profile) with the 2011 Viewbook PDF still on my computer form last year. It seems that UGA is doing something wrong and Emory is doing something right. Just look at the price tag difference. Even if someone like myself were to pay OOS for UGA the first year and In State the last two, the price at sticker is about $60,000 less to go to UGA than Emory. My first guess is scholarship money. UGA offered me nothing last year and Emory was quite generous, even though I was one of those pulled off of the waitlist during the summer. I was ecstatic that they were offering me money. Even though it wasn't a lot, it made me feel like I was worth SOMETHING. (I decided to wait and reapply though because I still need a little more and at that point I wanted to continue working for another year to save up.)jym_dawg wrote:It works for Yale?matthewsean85 wrote:From the way the email reads, it seems like a mass exodus of acceptance, WL and reject emails come the early spring, can it really be like that? So to conclude, I don't think Emory's process is hurting them all that much. Yes, I find it incredibly frustrating right now. I want to say I know where I'm going and I want to have the ability to start making concrete plans. Waiting til February or March feels like forever, but there was no way I was about to do an ED because I require scholarship money.

Did anyone else get the mailer today about the current 1L from FIU and life in Atlanta from an hispanic perspective, or was that something targeted to Miami applicants?
