Not really. I am waiting to hear back from my other schools so I don't have another offer to use as leverage. When you called to negotiate who did you attempt to speak to?

Honestly, I think the only person that can answer this question is you. Some schools may have a better reputation and thus graduates have a better foot in the door simply by having graduated from said school, but ultimately everyone who passes the bar is a lawyer just like everyone else who passed the bar. At that point, getting a job is going to come down to how hard you worked while in school doing internships/externships and making connections. I've heard that the top 10% or so of the class (of any school) is given preferential treatment in job searches as well, but that is NOT guaranteed to be factual, that's just what I've heard. It seems logical though.

So basically, if you do the work and make the connections and work your ass off to stay in the top of the class, you'll probably have a very good shot at a job. You'll see a lot of people on these boards asking similar questions and getting a ton of statistics and articles spewed back, which really drives me crazy. The truth is, NO ONE is qualified to answer this question other than yourself. If you're going into school knowing you'll be competing against graduates from NYU or Columbia, then prepare for it! 3 years from now you better have plenty more to show for yourself then just a piece of paper that says you graduated from Rutgers Law. THAT is what makes you competitive in the job market.

Well said and couldn't agree more. Any degree doesn't hand you the job, especially these days. I know plenty of people who didn't graduate from T14 and have good jobs that pay well and are doing extremely well for themselves. Every job market is hurting, not just in law so prepare to work hard and be aggressive and you should do well for yourself.

I believe there is an "Ask a Rutgers student" thread somewhere that would answer these questions. Quite frankly Rutgers has a very poor shot of getting you into NYC.

I spoke to some students today and apparently interships and positions in nyc are available as long as you're networking properly or are at the top of the class. Obviously not comparable to your odds coming from a school like Columbia but With the job market in the state it's in, I don't think Rutgers is far off from the middle of the road for NYC market (places below T14, and higher than all the schools no one talks about here)

i completely disagree. i was also at admitted students day and after the "ask a student lunch" I felt that the message was : be the at the tippy top of your class or get ready to hustle your way to an unpaid IL internship and bust your tail for the prospect of employment after graduation.

I wasn't disputing that. You're going to have to hustle hard to get into the NYC market from any school that isn't T-14 though so as far as that, I didn't think there were any surprises. I just meant that it was possible. You obviously have to get creative and work your tail off.

Also, their sentiments were driven more by the current state of the economy than the quality/perception of a Rutgers education. Jobs have been scarce in every field and according to many even doctors may not have complete job security during the next decade.

Spoke to someone in Admissions and they are still reviewing apps coming in but they are also making selections for the Minority Student Program right now. If you already got accepted then MSP would really be the only thing you could be waiting on right now...

So today I got the dreaded "The Admission Committee has carefully reviewed your file and the members are impressed by your credentials. At this time, the Committee has voted to defer making a decision on your file until later in the application season. "

I can only assume this means I have been waitlisted. They said they would know more in March..

Does anybody have any insight about the RU-N waitlisting process? How many people they accept from the waitlist, etc. 155/2.76 with strong softs and several years paralegal experience.

I'm not sure what "normal procedure" is because I've heard different stories from different people. Some people get status updates but my only update was in November from application received to complete. There was never an "in review" stage or second date change like I've seen from other schools.

I applied FT with slightly under medians for both LSAT and UGPA and not URM. I would've thought I'd at least be WL'd with my softs. Graduate degree with 3.9/work experience/internship in local Prosecutor's office. I thought wrong. On to the next...
