Though my life has experienced many changes, one thing remains constant, a reoccurring symbol amidst the chaos: the number 5. I was born the youngest of 5 siblings, entered the educational system exactly on my 5th birthday, my baseball jersey was number 5, I graduated 5th in my class in high school, and took 5 years to finish my college degree, as I was working part-time for Domino's Pizza, where I invented the 555 deal. Thus, once I decided that law was the career for me, I knew what I had to do. I grabbed a copy of the U.S. News Rankings, immediately looked up the 5th spot, and there it was: Chicago Law School. Destiny is calling. Chicago Law, you are the one for me.
Haha yeah saw the app and the corresponding question. This essay is impressive though

Is a simple list with no elaboration fine here? Please identify up to three areas of academic interest (e.g., Constitutional Law, International Law, Law and Economics), students organizations, or other topics that you would like to learn more about at the University of Chicago Law School: (maximum characters 200)

That's what I have so far. I didn't even consider the possibility of elaborating until I was going to bed last night. I don't really plan on changing it though, because I figure they can read my PS and make reasonable inferences as to why I would be interested in those topics / programs. And 200 characters isn't that much space anyway -- I believe that would be around one sentence each.giuseppes12 wrote:Is a simple list with no elaboration fine here? Please identify up to three areas of academic interest (e.g., Constitutional Law, International Law, Law and Economics), students organizations, or other topics that you would like to learn more about at the University of Chicago Law School: (maximum characters 200)
Edit: The way they worded it also makes it sound like it might just be used for promotional purposes if you're admitted and they want to convince you to attend. They can go back to your app, look at your expressed interests and then send you material and have students who participated in those organizations and maybe even professors who teach certain classes reach out to you. I feel the app somewhat hinted at this when it asked permission for students and faculty to contact us.

Re: Chicago c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I actually got Chicago to give me a fee-waiver last cycle when I don't think they were otherwise planning on doing so. I didn't (iirc) have a hidden waiver by November and so I called. I got rebuffed by some sort of pro on the other line end but I did her one better by asking if there was an email address I could message and then, right as she was about to hang up and get rid of me, asking for her name. Next I sent an email going like this:
"Hello ______
I called and spoke to X today who told me that I might message you about the possibility of an application fee waiver..."
totally got it. Boom. My numbers were high so that might have helped.

Thoughts on leaving #1 and/or #6 blank on section 8 of the app?

Re: Chicago c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
After reading this, I'll probably leave #6 blank. As it is, have a feeling Chicago will be looking to WL/reject me since my GPA is below their median but above Columbia's and NYU's. No need to add fuel to the fire by confirming that I'll be applying there. I'd have no problem listing every school I'm applying to if they really wanted to know, but in this instance I suppose there's no benefit to disclosing.giuseppes12 wrote:--LinkRemoved--

Not sure about #1. I think I'll just leave my answers for now.

I can confirm that ChampagnePapi put the wrong graph as there is most definitely a Chicago Graph (I made them =P)KevinP wrote:Did anyone else catch that the "Decision Date Graph 2011-2012 Cycle" says Georgetown University Law Center? lol

Re: Chicago c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I would list it separately under honors but in one mention.
Ex:
Academic Honors - Spring 2009, Fall 2010, Spring 2011
If it is called Dean's List or something else legit sounding put that too.
