You all rock.... thanks!!
156, 3.5 (3.39 LSACgpa) applied 1/8 but just got the email for complete on 1/20. That could be just a delay in the email, im hoping.
I am above the median for each category, so i figured i should be ok.

Syracuse not having a status checker kind of sucks. At this point I think it'd be cool just to have the shirt. Or at least an ironic "Syracuse Law 2015 Waitlist!" shirt.

I was going over their business law programs, they seem pretty solid. I do like that they have a Bankruptcy Clinic, especially considering I'm currently a bankruptcy paralegal.
Does anyone else think that their new living accommodations are wayyyyyy too expensive? I mean $1000/month just to be in a 4-BR in Syracuse, NY on top of about $50,000/year (including fees, tuition, books, etc.) to attend there? I'm gonna need a solid scholly and different place to live to even think of it, unfortunately.

I havent seen the numbers exactly.... but $1000 a month for a 4 bedroom sounds about right, even for where im at... and thats Montana. Especially NY where everything is more expensive. Doesnt sound unreasonable, maybe I misunderstood your post though.iceicebaby wrote:I was going over their business law programs, they seem pretty solid. What I mean is that you personally pay $1000 a month to live in a 4 BR with 3 other people who are also paying $1000/month. I feel like a 4BR doesn't typically run for $4000/month in upstate NY, nor does a 1BR for $1250 or studio for $1100; they basically feel like NYC prices, but in Syracuse, NY. I could be wrong, though.benburns214 wrote:I havent seen the numbers exactly.... but $1000 a month for a 4 bedroom sounds about right, even for where im at... and thats Montana. Quite a lot about Cuse does seem expensive (i.e. 62k at sticker with COL). I am also going to need a serious scholarship to make this consideration more real.iceicebaby wrote:What I mean is that you personally pay $1000 a month to live in a 4 BR with 3 other people who are also paying $1000/month. Is there anywhere else worth living besides their own apartments? They do seem pretty steep for the area Syracuse is in...

I'm not looking at SU for school next year, but I live in the University Hill area right now. There are definitely some more reasonable places off campus, University Hill Realty owns a lot of the rental properties in the area so that might be a place to start. As far as cost of living, I think that Syracuse and Central New York is actually fairly low cost compared to a lot of places.kdl13 wrote:Is there anywhere else worth living besides their own apartments? Rent is really cheap in Syracuse, as is the cost of living. I know, because I live here and grew up here. If you're finding places for 1000/month a person, then run far away, that is extremely overpriced for the area. On average, decent 2-bedroom apartments go for around 600-850 a month (for entire apartment, not pp.)

I visited last week-it's really nice and a new law school will be completed by fall '14 just in time for 3L. They also have a really cool cold case group who crack old cases across the country. The 1L who gave me the tour is a member of it. He said they were awaiting the Grand Jury indictment to bring in a suspect in OK from like 1992. I thought that was really amazing and definitely up my alley. I hope I get in. 157 3.8 (3.0 LSDAS) applied 1/10/12

Yeah, that's what my roommate also said. He went for undergrad and told me that the price of the law school's apartments is absolutely absurd. The only thing is that the prices for those apartments include pretty much everything, cable, water, power, gas, heating, furniture, etc. But at $700-$800/month more, there is no way that it is a good idea unless you feel like you don't want to deal with all of those separate utilities/cable bills and getting furniture. Myself, I already have a bunch of furniture, but the trick is getting it up there to the 'Cuse from CT.barbaraeliz wrote:Rent is really cheap in Syracuse, as is the cost of living. The $1000/person apartments are part of the new on campus housing Syracuse law is building. The information for the apartment complex comes with the acceptance packet. They look really nice, but they are REALLY expensive.

$1,000.00 one time fee to have a moving company transport your belongings is so worth it.

Re: Syracuse c/o 2015
I contacted a 1L I know at SU Law and he said that SU Law tightened the grading curve as a response to its unsatisfactory New York Bar pass rate. The 1L said that the result of the tighter grading curve was that there were more academic casualties and pressure for those with scholarships to retain their 'ships.
The below link indicates that 70% to 75% of all grades must be between B+ and C with each student achieving a near C+ average to graduate. Please also note that the linked policy requires each professor to award more than 10% of the students a grade below that necessary to graduate.
Has anyone else heard anything good, or bad about the new SU grading policy?

Re: Syracuse c/o 2015
Their old curve is what pushed me toward a different public law school. Losing your scholarship at a place like Syracuse is pretty much a deal breaker. If you have a $30,000/year scholarship and fall below their standards, you either have to pay approx 50k for the next two years or drop out.paradox wrote:I contacted a 1L I know at SU Law and he said that SU Law tightened the grading curve as a response to its unsatisfactory New York Bar pass rate. waverunner,
It is interesting that more posters focus upon the fact that they received a free T-shit from SU School of Law than the fact that the school has tightened its curve and that change may make their life more difficult and cost them thens of thousands of dollars.
