I won't be fortunate enough to have that problem, but it would depend on the need based aid from Harvard. Assuming zero or close to it, I go with the Rubenstein.kulshan wrote:If you got a Rubenstein but also got into Harvard (but not YS), what would you do? Just wondering. It seems to me like this would be one of the hardest decisions to make. Have you given it any thought?

I'd take the Ruby and never look back.kulshan wrote:If you got a Rubenstein but also got into Harvard (but not YS), what would you do? Just wondering. It seems to me like this would be one of the hardest decisions to make. Have you given it any thought?

If I was presented with the situation (and I won't be), then I think my preferences would be:
Y > Hammy/Ruby > H/S
Y > Hammy/Ruby > H/S

Yes, it's very hard to decide. I want academia and my other field is philosophy, which complicates things considerably. Ah well, Yale will let us all in and we won't have to worry

Bils, I gotta ask, did you think with a 168 you'd ever really have a shot at UChi, even with your stellar GPA?

Not really. It was my super reach (Didn't apply to HYSC) and I was pretty sure that they'd say no. Once the cycle got started I noticed a few people with numbers like mine on LSN got in so my hopes were raised significantly.UnamSanctam wrote:Bils, I gotta ask, did you think with a 168 you'd ever really have a shot at UChi, even with your stellar GPA?
I guess the massage is hold out hope and don't be afraid to apply to your dream school.

This. Harvard, while prestigious, isn't worth 250k more than a Ruby.Bildungsroman wrote:I'd take the Ruby and never look back.kulshan wrote:If you got a Rubenstein but also got into Harvard (but not YS), what would you do? Seems auspicious that my first post will be at the Uchicago applicant forum. I want, I want, I want. I want to go back home again. Chicago with your pretty skyline and Giordano's pizza and Ukrainian Village and your blistering heat and horrible winters. No. Wait. The last two don't actually make me homesick after California, but I can stand it for the pretty city and the awesome school.
But anyway, just wanted to say hi. I've been lurking a lot but I've finally taken the plunge and registered. Maybe I'll even be courageous enough to brave the lounge. (j12 is right; it does seem a little intimidating.) I'm committed! I'm organized! I will actually start on my PS!

Oh, and what's the consensus on the Why Chicago essay? Should we always write it?
