Re: Club 170
I remember waiting up to an email with my score in it (this is after everyone got their score the day before). I came running downstairs saying yeaaaa I got a 170. Really happy. It's only when you see all the 171+ people always get accepted before you at schools that you eventually get accepted into ... That and the speckle of hope that we can actually get into HYS ... (and the forever wait that comes with it).aredhello wrote:Very true r6, about what makes us less than grateful. I knew what I was getting into when I decided to apply to law school, but it still troubles me how meaningless so-called "softs" can be when I consider those to be both much greater accomplishments and and much greater indicators for my future success in law than my LSAT score or GPA. I'm sure you feel the same way.
But again, we all knew what we signed up for here...so all I can really say is good luck my fellow 170ers!
I am very happy with where I am. But I also know I could have scored a 172 though

169 is especially painful when you get to the last question of the exam, confidently answer the question, decide you're wrong and change your answer, and then later realize that if you'd kept your original answer, you'd have earned a 170.Arbiter213 wrote:r6 I love you, but 170 isn't the real painful number. It is probably uniquely frustrating because we scored high enough to not warrant "retake" in most cases, but yet we have to wait forever to hear from top schools while initial acceptances are pouring in. We are unlikely to get sympathy from anyone except a fellow 170er so here is out own support group!
Now THAT is painful.
Uh. Not that I'd know from personal experience or anything. Y'know. Just sayin'.

Re: Club 170
I agree that a 169 is the most heartbreaking score. Hitting 170 opens a lot of doors; that was my retake threshold. So I got the awkward 170 and laziness + an acceptance to UT convinced me not to retake. I was pretty disappointed at first because my PT average was higher and I felt like my low GPA was holding me back. I got no love from the splitter thread either, pretty much just a few gtfo's. Anyway, my cycle is over and went perfectly. 170 success story! I will always be grateful to that number
Good luck to all the 170ers
Edit: and 169ers!!

Nice work. Mine was 151 so I second the gratitude you feel, however, the improvement came after significant work.Lou9 wrote:My diag was a 150, so I should probably be grateful for my 20 point improvement.starrydreamz3 wrote:My diag was a 168 as well. Bittersweet.

The only thing that bothers me is that 170 is the median at a bunch of t-14's and it's hard not to think that a 171 would put us ABOVE the median and often at the 75th percentile. Ahh that would be nice. But it's definitely a better predicament than a 169, right?

Re: Club 170
i hereby petition that I should be permitted in this thread. Reasons being:
1. A 171 is fundamentally not so different from a 170 right now. Medians for CCN have gone up over the past year or two so that a 171 is a long shot as well (depending on GPA of course, and mine is in dangerous territory because it's at/below CCN medians). When I first got my 171 I fell apart with happiness because I really wanted Chicago, but then I took a look at the numbers and realized that my chances were no better than 50/50.
2. I want somewhere to vent about admissions as well! I think that this type of thread is valuable not only for (tongue-in-cheek) support for similar scorers but also just to have a place in which to discuss any school/admissions issue that comes up, rather than having to separate your Berkeley talk from your Cornell talk, etc., in separate threads.
I rest my case.

if you had a 171 versus a 170 with the exact same GPAs, but the 170 went to a more prestigious school, do you think they would even out? I'm guessing no...

I knew I didn't have that when I walked out, but I really really was hoping to at least get a 172 to put me at the medians I wanted to be at. I told myself 169 I'll retake, 171 I'll keep. I got a 170 and was like...well then...shit.
Whatever.

I should really focus my frustration on my gpa, which has been damaged by my community college grades from a number of years ago.

I feel so much worse about my 169 after reading this thread...
February tests are the worst. Undisclosed, so I don't even know which questions I got wrong. My pt average before the test was around 172 but i hit a 177 about a week before the test. When i got my score I was a bit disappointed but happy since I improved 18 points from my first pt. But whatevs, I went with the 169, got into michigan and am now hoping for Berkeley.
Please call me dean Tom.

Anyway, quite a few of us have gotten into NYU, so that's not really a problem anymore. But yeah, if you take my Columbia away from me, I'ma have major sadface.

You read the comments about how a 169 is the absolute worst score, right?

I'm sitting here at 171 and 3.4x.
I just wish that I was able to retake college. I'll let you guys have most of the T14. I want GW with their half scholarship and housing ($125k value over 34 years). That is what would make me really happy.
Thinking on it - can I go back to college for 1 more year and pull my GPA up?
