I'm officially applying. I must say the Why Irvine essay was actually pretty easy for me to write. It helps that I've heard Professor Vandell speak as he was a keynote speaker for my work and I took an undergraduate class with Dean Chemerinsky.

Sent my app in about a month ago. The why essay was surprisingly easy for me too although I had been putting off sending in my app because of it. Orange Country would be a pretty nice place to spend some time.

I don't know why but I'm really anxious to hear back from UC Irvine... but according to LSN they started sending out notifications during January of last year. Still a while to go

I think the fact that the UCI Law community is so small and yet so proud and accomplished generates the excitement that many prospective students seem to feel. It's not your typical law school, and that seems to spawn curiosity and interest.conroyc wrote:I don't know why but I'm really anxious to hear back from UC Irvine... but according to LSN they started sending out notifications during January of last year. UCI has a new Dean of Admissions, but she won't be in until January, at which point decisions will begin to be made. She's extremely accomplished, having served as the Dean of Admissions at the law schools at UPenn, Hastings, and Penn State, and the business school at Columbia. She was also an admissions officer at Columbia Law.

Thanks! Are you applying this year? I really wish UCI had a status checker that I could obsessively look atmsch0i wrote:Good luck to everyone applying! I visited last year and the school (as well as the OC) is awesome

Re: UC Irvine 2011 Applicants
Anybody know what numbers are auto-admits for UCI? Or what generally they are looking for numbers-wise? It is my first choice, but I'm worried that my LSAT is only a 162 and I won't be admitted. My GPA is 3.63 (3.67 with lsac, though) from a top 20 private college.
I have no idea how I compare to other applicants or accepted students...anybody have any info on this?

If I am admitted to UCI, it will be because they read my GPA backwards.

The first acceptances last year on LSN were on Jan. 11th. Hopefully, things will start moving at UCI next week.

Last year's entering class had these numbers: 3.34-3.76, 163-168thelibear wrote:Anybody know what numbers are auto-admits for UCI? Or what generally they are looking for numbers-wise? Dean Chemerinsky and the Chancellor of UCI are committed to maintaining these numbers, even if it means enrolling fewer students than planned (roughly 100).
Your 3.67 GPA may be attractive to UCI depending on the makeup of the applicant pool. In any case, UCI is certainly as holistic as a law program can be in its admissions process, so stay optimistic.

thanks ViP!
I'll remain optimistic and hope for the best! If not, I have a great offer at chapman (full scholarship) so at least I know I've got somewhere to go next year!
