Re: St. John's 2011 Cycle
Has anyone else heard back? I emailed and left a message today, since it's been a week from the status checker. I'm leaving campus for 5 weeks tomorrow (winter break), so I'd really like to know before then.

Thanks, that makes me feel better about it not getting lost in the mail haha. That's weird that it took you so long to get it- I know for me, it usually takes 2 days to get mail. I'm glad I emailed/called them - hopefully since they know I won't be able to check my mail for so long, they'll just email me a copy of my letter. Congrats on being accepted!

Re: St. John's 2011 Cycle
They sent the letter to my parent's house in NJ today (which means they must have mailed it out just the other day, even though it said 12/10 on my status checker). In with a full ride!

Re: St. John's 2011 Cycle
If anyone else is waiting, I just spoke w/someone in the admissions office. She said that they send the letters to the permanent address, because they know break is coming up and figured we'd either be there to receive it, or someone would forward it to us. I was just under the impression that it was sent to school, since that's the address listed on the status checker, but this works too.

Re: St. John's 2011 Cycle
hay everyone.
I just submitted my application to STJ Law this week. Could you please tell me when I will receive the status checker?
My application was messed up by my irresponsible prelaw counsel who I ask for a LOR. I hope I may get the decision at least in march.

Congrats to those admitted!!
For those that have received a decision, could you tell me when you submitted your application? I submitted mine on 11/30 so I'm trying to figure out when I should expect to hear back. Thanks!

I submitted 11/17, decision was made 12/1, and I received the letter 12/14 (there was a lag time between the first notice that the decision had been made and the first batch of letters going out).

Congrats to all that got admitted recently. If you're in with a full ride it is definitely worth considering. SJU makes it easier than most schools to keep your scholarship so that's something to consider when weighing different schools.
If anyone has questions feel free to ask, I'll answer what I can.

What is life like on campus? By that I mean, do you spend a lot of your time on campus? Is there much to do around campus? How about the law dorms, did you live there, would you recommend them? Sorry for all the questions but I am pretty stoked to have gotten a full ride and I want to know all I can!

Re: St. John's 2011 Cycle
Has everyone admitted so far received a full scholarship? It seems this way on LSN, though there aren't many accepted at this point. I'm wondering because my letter was mailed on 12/14 and I live in NY, so should hopefully get it by tomorrow.

Haven't heard anything... I live in NY as well and it was sent 12/10. I called them on Thursday (since the status checker says to wait a week) and the lady in the admissions office said to give it more time b/c of the holidays. Seems a little strange since regular mail has been coming just fine, but we'll see...

Letter sent 12/14, received it today, also in with full scholarship. It looks like if your letter's been sent, it means full scholarship. I could be wrong on this but nobody seems to have had other results so far.

Stringer6 wrote:first time i've heard that top 10% at st. john's doesn't get you a job. i did some light research a while ago and saw st. john's people at a bunch of the vault 100 firms...classes of 2009 and 2010. just looking at the firms' websites, i'd say i found a st. john's grad from 2008-2010 a decent amount of the time, suggesting that top 10% lands you a job.People on Law Review not being able to find paying jobs for the summer. People graduating magna not having jobs upon graduation and having difficulty finding something until they pass the bar.
Sounds like two good reasons to me.
I think the point 0L's often tend to miss is the PERCENTAGE of people who have jobs. Sure you can go to websites and see 1 or 2 new people from the very top of St. John's class at each place, and yes you can point out a few people who have some form of PI job. However, the issue is that the overwhelming majority are SOL when it comes to legitimate firm work, and very few (comparatively) are going to be competitive for PI gigs.
I suppose I can understand disregarding news like that from a person who doesn't go to the school, but to disregard it from a 2L at the school?
I don't think St. Johns is a terrible bet if you're realistic. They are very generous with cash, and from what I know, they don't have ridiculous requirements to keep it (my scholarship was "good standing" which basically means don't fail out...don't know if that's the norm). I also suppose I can understand how you guys tend to react to bad news...I mean you're really interested in a school and someone comes up and says "you'll be jobless, broke, and miserable" how are you supposed to feel about that? I get it. I just hope you all take a lot of this stuff into consideration as you make your decision on which school to matriculate to. And I dont mean decide not to go to law school...I mean if you get a full ride at SJ, don't go to Brooklyn or Dozo at or near sticker because it's "higher ranked."

So are you saying that we should not consider St. John's then? ahaha

Aqualibrium is makins some valid points. Hes telling you to make sure you do some thourough research before going. Rankings dont matter, results after graduation (* JOBS) do. Make sure you loook at the entire picture- total cost ( including col), requirements for money, instate- out of state rates, job placement, bar passage rates, as well as curriculum options / concentration areas are just some that immediately come to mind.Aqualibrium wrote:Did you read my post at all?derrminater wrote:So are you saying that we should not consider St. John's then? ahaha
There is no sure thing./ way to raking in big money right after school/ or after a few years. Make sure that whatever school you end up going to will allow you to graduate, get a job, and be able to finacnially support yourself/ family. He is making a great point. If you really like St. Johns/ schools in NYC make sure to do adequate research. thats the bottom line

you'll say this is stupid, but i have confidence in my ability to perform academically.
that said, i most likely won't be attending st. johns.
