No being anywhere above those numbers would be either gpa or LSAT. Someone with a 3.4 and 155 IMO has almost no chance and that falls into your category. It is known that to be competitive one should be about the medians at least. The 155 case I cited includes a compensating gpa no where near a 3.3.

Again, thats above my numbers. Like I said, if one can be above my numbers, they have a good shot. You must not understand what Im saying.

EXACTLY! A 155 / 3.4 is above your numbers and would probably not get in. That is the point. McGriff, if I remember, has 160ish and should be fine anyways. It doesn't warrant unhelpful claims.

Quick question about the Miami app--

Voluntary question #5 toward the end says: We consider favorably the fact that an applicant has overcome obstacles. Please explain any situation (e.g., English is not your native language, discrimination, economic hardship, severe medical conditions, etc.) that you would like the Committee to consider.

My entire PS is about a nearly-fatal car accident I experienced, my extensive & debilitating injuries, and the rough year-long recovery process. The theme is perseverance-- basically how I overcame a challenge I initially felt was insurmountable.

The accident happened 1.5 years after I graduated, so it had no impact on my GPA. However it does explain why I have almost a year long gap in employment. I couldn't walk, drive, let alone sit up -- all of which was mentioned in my PS. It also may impact my LSAT score. I took it in October and had to wear a neck collar, which prevents you from moving your neck at all. I can't look down for more than 30 minutes before the pain kicks in, so obviously that was an issue. But again, I don't know my score yet. I doubt I blew it, though.

Should I re-address the medical hardship in the above question??? Can I say something to the effect of: "I was involved in a near-fatal car accident, leaving me with debilitating injuries from which I am still recovering. This accident and the personal growth it inspired is addressed in my personal statement." I'd phrase it better, obviously.

Do you guys think that's sufficient? Or write, "Please see my PS addressing my medical issues"? Or should I leave the question blank? I thought maybe they might be referring to a long-term medical condition that has affected me throughout life, etc. I mean, it’s certainly been an obstacle to overcome, but it had no impact on my academics since it happened almost 2 years after graduating. And it won't significantly impact me for the rest of my life or next fall.

I’m also including an addendum to explain two things, neither of which are terrible, but should probably be addressed:
- one bad semester I had years ago due to Major Depressive Disorder (no longer an issue, and my transcript illustrates that). Only mentioning it because my semester GPA that semester was a 2.9. Every other semester, before and after, I received mostly A's.
- a medical withdrawal (after graduation) from the one and only course I was taking out of my own personal interest

I suppose I could also mention the accident there (esp. if it ends up affecting my LSAT score), and then for question #5 write, “Please see my personal statement and addendum explaining my past medical problems,” or something like that.

IMO, don't readdress it. You are already going to include 2 addendum, another will make it seem more like a list of excuses. Keep things simple.

That is the approach I would take in your situation. My PS was originally about a medical hardship, but countless adcomms told me to take it out and make it a DS, and have my PS be about accomplishments, work experience, and academic achievement. For future apps you MAY want to consider doing this. If not, then either leave it blank or give a brief (like, a sentence or two at most) recap of the incident.

3.3/165...I realize I will get in....But will I get $? That is going to be a deciding factor, as I like everything else about the school. Being from MI, and hating cold weather, the thought of a snowless year arouses me. I like the Florida market in general, and as I ultimately want to get into politics, Florida is a good, non-crazy state to start in. Also, LeBron, which is a bigger factor than it should be, but the idea of being able to see him play in person several times a year...yeah. I love him.

I applied on 10/10 and got the email to make the CaneID but I can't find a status checker for the life of me through my CaneID page. Anyone want to clue me in?
