You obviously haven't spent much time in Houston, or the South for that matter.bergg007 wrote:Unfortunately, all rap< everything else

Well, I think in the houston dialect it is more correctly pronounced "surp", though either one is probably appropriate.ihp12 wrote:Marionberry wrote:I, for one, look forward to studying law in the "city ofsyrup".

Check out lawschoolnumbers.com. Just off the top of my head I'm thinking 166-167, though maybe a little bit lower.merc280 wrote:if my gpa is 2.7, how much would my LSAT have to be to get into UH? I went to undergrand there and am a houston native

Check out http://houston.lawschoolnumbers.com/sta ... Cycle=1011. It shows some of the applicants last year, their numbers, and whether or not they were accepted. Only one person was accepted last year on that graph with a 2.7 GPA, and they had a 165 LSAT.merc280 wrote:if my gpa is 2.7, how much would my LSAT have to be to get into UH? Unfortunately the odds don't look to be in your favor, but it may be possible if you have strong soft factors and pull a high LSAT.

The South? you mean the land of country music *shudder*. I've visited Houston, but most of my time in the south has been in the real south. I've lived in the south for a couple of years. Texas is southwestern not southern.

I call Texas the south and I've lived here for nearly ten years. It makes logical sense to call Texas the south since it's the southernmost state. I concede most people who live in Texas call it the southwest, but they are just in denial.bergg007 wrote:maxm2764 wrote:You obviously haven't spent much time in Houston, or the South for that matter.bergg007 wrote:Unfortunately, all rap< everything else

Everyone from the south,(VA, NC, SC, GA, TN, FL, KY, AL, LA, MO, MS, AR, and i'm probably forgetting a state) says that Texas is not in the south. It's kind of in between the regions. It feels midwestern, it has major cities like a eastern or pacific state, but most of the state is obviously southwestern with more in common with NM than anywhere else. I'll concede that Houston doesn't feel Southwestern, and Dallas and Austin feel more similar to Cleveland than Atlanta; but San Antonio and Albuquerque are twins. All of west Texas is different from east Texas, and most of the state qualifies as west.
My wife is from Dallas and we argue all the time about whether or not TX is in the south. She thinks so , I obviously disagree. I have never met anyone from outside of TX who thought that TX was a southern state. That should speak volumes.

And to call S.A. & Albuquerque twins is a bit off; a tad similar, but not that much. And Austin compared to Cleveland? Seriously? In what way...I don't see any comparison.

Whether or not Texas is "southern", I can say with certainty that is in the "dirty south".

When I think of Houston as in the South, I sure as hell don't mean this shit:

I'm thinking more along the lines of this:

Re: University of Houston 2011
The problem with this debate is its hard to really define "the south", because it not a monolith. In my experience, each southern state has had its own distinct characteristics that in my mind make it distinct. Texas has a different history and culture than Louisiana, which has a different history and culture than Florida, which has a different history and culture than Virginia. Even within Texas, East Texas (Beaumont) is way different than say the Valley (Del Rio), which is way different than the panhandle.

Thank god Z-Ro made an appearance in this thread. I hope to secure a job as his legal counsel, which should be very lucrative until he is either: 1) permanent incarcerated and has exhausted all his appeals, 2)dead from a codeine overdose, or 3)has blown all his money and has to rely on a public defender(this is probably the most likely, though I might do pro bono work for him.

FWIW, I didn't put my numbers on LSN, but I got into UHLC with < 2.5 and a 166 last year.

Yeah, the LSAC Official Guide has an admissions graph that is probably more accurate a picture than LSN.Ty Webb wrote:Josh the Goat wrote:Check out http://houston.lawschoolnumbers.com/sta ... it looks like with a 165 or over your chances are pretty good, though they get a little worse as the GPAs get down below 2.75
