Re: GW 2011 Applicants
I notice on LSN that some RD applicants last year got a $100k+ scholarship PLUS first-year living expenses stipend. Is this a better deal than what the ED applicants get?

I don't think so. ED applicants get a full ride that includes living expenses I believe. 100k would leave about 20-30k for you to handle out of pocket.

ED gets full tuition which amounts to about 30k more than the $105,450 deal that some RD's get (I have the RD deal). Also, ED is guaranteed while the RD is contingent on maintaining a 3.0 (which is a little below median).evandm wrote:I don't think so. Looking at LSN, it looks like the 105 RD deal is only given to those above both medians. Do you think that is the case, or does above 75/just below other median have a chance?Teoeo wrote:ED gets full tuition which amounts to about 30k more than the $105,450 deal that some RD's get (I have the RD deal). Re: GW 2011 Applicants
I was not above both medians, actually I wasn't above either median so I know that's not always true. I had a 3.21//167 with really good softs (an extensive PI resume) and really good recs / personal statement. I think this is due to the fact that last year they opened up a special PI program with a new dean (just for PI) and have been recruiting people hard.OrdinarilySkilled wrote:Looking at LSN, it looks like the 105 RD deal is only given to those above both medians. GW tends to do one of 2 things: offer nothing, or offer a boatload of money. If you made it clear you were really interested in them you might get the boatload =DDeuce wrote:On the topic of scholarship....

Went complete for the PT program today.
Here's hoping my WE and master's in chemistry outweigh my shoddy UGPA for the PT program.

We actually have pretty close numbers for PT, andro. I'll keep my fingers crossed for us both!androstan wrote:Went complete for the PT program today.

I have a Master's in chemistry also. I've spoken to a handful of admissions officers, and the consensus seems to be that the Master's degree (although it isn't scored), goes a long way towards rehabilitating your UGPA; especially if you were a hard science undergrad too. I think they use the GPA as a predictor of how well you can handle the workload of law school - I think a Master's in Chemistry is a strong indicator of your ability to handle academic rigor.androstan wrote:Went complete for the PT program today.

PT'er here too, submitted 11/9, complete 11/10
LSAT isn't specactular but had a good UGPA relative to major. Are all the PT'ers in a hard science looking to do IP?

I've heard of some that aren't. They are going into law because they want to get the hell away from science/engineering because now they hate it.zreinhar wrote:PT'er here too, submitted 11/9, complete 11/10

ITE I want to hedge my bets, though. There are fewer patent bar eligible JD's out there than otherwise. I want supply/demand economics to work in my favor.

First off, seconding Teoeo in many ways. He's totally right. I'm just throwing in my anecdotal evidence and two-cents:OrdinarilySkilled wrote:Looking at LSN, it looks like the 105 RD deal is only given to those above both medians. ED folks end up getting more money than those of us with RD money, but the difference is less than it sounds; it's around $20k (which I realize is a lot of money, but not compared to the $200k law school in DC costs). The Pres. scholarship (ED) doesn't cover living expenses, but takes care of all of tuition.
I came in with the $105 RD thing, too. And, like Teoeo, wasn't above both medians. In fact, no one that I've yet met that has that particular scholarship had numbers above both medians (but this is a limited sample, granted). For the record, I was above the 75th on one and near (though slightly above) the 25th on the other. And, unlike Teoeo, my resume was only mediocre.

Just seems silly. I am really interested, but only contingent upon the money.Teoeo wrote:GW tends to do one of 2 things: offer nothing, or offer a boatload of money. If you made it clear you were really interested in them you might get the boatload =DDeuce wrote:On the topic of scholarship....

Sent in my ED application today, probably a waste of time. Anyone know if they've ever given an ED scholarship to a sub 3.5 GPA?

Maybe if you have a 180. GW is known to care about LSAT more than anything.suspicious android wrote:Sent in my ED application today, probably a waste of time. Anyone know if they've ever given an ED scholarship to a sub 3.5 GPA?
