They say to send it in by the 1st to be sure. I'm assuming you'll still be fine, but if they get around to it on the 16th, you're in the regular pile.MyNameIsYou wrote:What happens if you go complete only a few days before the November 15 deadline? I read that it can take them a while to process, and it's in our best interest to get the app in well before the due date, but why? I'm waiting on an additional score and a recommendation that's coming down to the wire and I don't know if I can go complete before maybe November 8ish.

I'm just a little confused....in general, when schools have a hard deadline, aren't you able to go down to the wire on it? I feel like the process would be much simpler if they required completion by November 5 or something.

I agree, but it is what it is.
I think you'll be ok, seriously. I think I remember them putting the possible lag in LSAC's court, but even if I'm wrong about that, you can't get it in any earlier than you can, so just get it in asap & cross yer fingers.

There is a hard deadline. Application materials must be received by November 15th. Because it takes time for the material to arrive at the Law School, Michigan recommends submitting materials no later than Nov. 1st.

Knowing Dean Z...I doubt she'd count it against you. I'd seriously consider whether you need it or not. Unless you are telling a life-changing story...I'd find a way.2ofspades wrote:I'm glad to see the ED page started - I hope to see all of you at UM next summer! We've already started a Class of 2014 page that I hope you've seen.
I called and asked if I could submit a third optional essay when I applied last year, and they allowed me to. I think they want to know all information that will be pertinent to their decision-making, so if you need an extra page to do that, then send it. Of course, if you post in the PS writing page, I'm sure some TLSers will let you PM your essay and advise whether it should be cut down. When possible, brevity is strength.s0ph1e2007 wrote:Michigan says one page for the two supplemental essays
My DS is 1.75 pages I would say though, and I think it would really harm it to make it shorter...
should I cut it anyways?

Is this true even if we send all of our app materials electronically? Oh wait, does LSAC send their reports by hard copy? This would make sense to me then.

Yeah the LSAC app is received instantly, so the time delay is waiting for the LSAC report.MyNameIsYou wrote:michigandrew wrote:There is a hard deadline. How soon after "LSAC complete" did you guys get an email from UMich? What's the time frame here? I'm worried my late October submission isn't going to get there by Nov 15th.

I submitted my app on September 9th and Michigan received it on the 15th, so I wouldn't worry. You should be fine!

My status has updated every day it seems. Does anyone know if any EDers heard in the first wave of acceptances (~November 9th) last year?

Mine updated both yesterday and today.
Not sure whether any EDers heard in the first wave.
edit: Apparently both RD and ED applicants did hear back in the first wave.

Re: Michigan ED 2011
This was my presumption as well. However, looking at last year's thread, the first wave of ED acceptance came out right before thanksgiving (after the ED deadline, which makes sense)michigandrew wrote:

Michigan is sending out RD decisions :/ Even though I know we probably won't hear anything for a couple weeks, I have been status-checking every 3 minutes.
Whyyy can't they send out ED decisions now??

Re: Michigan ED 2011
My guess is since ED candidates must come they don't make any decisions until the deadline has passed and they can pick and choose from the entirety of the ED pool. I believe this first wave consists of the 3.8+, 170+ people. I bet we're looking at a similarly timed initial wave of ED admits the week before Thanksgiving.almostfamous wrote:Michigan is sending out RD decisions :/ Even though I know we probably won't hear anything for a couple weeks, I have been status-checking every 3 minutes.

I submitted a complete app on 11/4 for ED, what are my chances that it will be complete by the 11/15 deadline?

Re: Michigan ED 2011
I don't know if anyone is able to answer that because I believe most status checkers have taken around 3 weeks to arrive. But, as soon as I got my status checker I was complete, so I have no idea when I actually went complete.treeborn wrote:

I imagine it wouldn't hurt to call and see if they can update you, but I think it's out of your hands now and you just have to hope for the best. Good luck!

A call to Michigan would probably be a good idea. I remember reading on LSN about one applicant whose app arrived after the 15th but was still allowed to participate in ED.

Re: Michigan ED 2011
It depends on the schools as to how long it takes. I sent most of my applications out 10/30 and a good number were complete by 11/4. I really wouldn't imagine the ship time to Michigan is that much longer; they probably just take longer to process it all.treeborn wrote:Been posting around the Michigan threads, just wanting more confirmation.im_blue wrote:Yeah the LSAC app is received instantly, so the time delay is waiting for the LSAC report.MyNameIsYou wrote:michigandrew wrote:There is a hard deadline. Yeah, I'm complete everywhere but Michigan, and I submitted them all 11/4. Crossing my fingers it's sometime soon.

Re: Michigan ED 2011
So I think besides nyk3 got in today, am I right to assume that none of other EDs have heard anything yet? And since nyk3 has the same status date as me, I may already see that rejection letter on its way.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
