Re: Waitlisted at Northwestern 2010
Got my WL via pdf on status checker on 4/30.
I faxed the form back today.
By the way, for those of you interested, I spoke to admissions today who did inform me that those individuals accepted off the WL can ask for a deferral on a case by case basis.
This is one of a few schools who I think allows this.

au contraire, I think the lack of hold>>>>>rejects is a good sign. To me it signals that they would like to keep the wl long because they will need to dip heartily into it. Last year there were a lot of rejects from hold and I didn't see a single one this year. The fact that these decisions were made at the end of april, when they had a good idea of yield, is encouraging to me.dreaming wrote:Isn't it strange that they seem not to have rejected anyone from hold? INNNteresting. I see both sides here. Larger WL = lower percentage of admits from it, but also more likely that they're expecting to have to pull from it. I have to admit, I was skeptical of the 20-25% quote in our letters, but your reasoning has me hopeful.dreaming wrote:This is a better way of thinking!noname4 wrote:au contraire, I think the lack of hold>>>>>rejects is a good sign. Re: Waitlisted at Northwestern 2010
For people who have already had an on-campus interview, even if it was a few months ago, does it make sense to visit? $400 to $500 for a plane ticket is a helluva lot to spend after a hold--->WL. I feel like visiting the school once and sending in LOCI's proclaiming boundless love for the school (and maybe including a severed pinky as a sign of commitment) should be enough. Opinions?

How do they usually accept WLees? Phone call? Email? Stealth letter update?

Not really expecting to get in, nor sure whether I can justify sticker price anyway, but I'll join you guys in this thread nevertheless.

I can't be sure, but my guess would be that it refers to them pruning the waitlist at some point over the summer.taw856 wrote:Not really expecting to get in, nor sure whether I can justify sticker price anyway, but I'll join you guys in this thread nevertheless.

Re: Waitlisted at Northwestern 2010
i actually got an email today confirming they received my WL response form and my LOCI and mentioned the "shortened waitlist." it sounds like by "shortened" they mean that due to rejections and withdrawals after the deposit deadline the list has naturally been shortened. don't think we can read much more into it beyond that.Encyclopedia Brown wrote:No idea. I also received the confirmation that they received my "shortened summer waitlist response form." No idea what that means.

Re: Waitlisted at Northwestern 2010
I didn't get a confirmation e-mail, but I did e-mail them yesterday to make sure they got my form. They did. No idea what the "shortened summer waitlist" is, but has anyone thought about straight-up asking them?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
