Given the state of the California budget, I'd bet the CoA differences will be near 20-25k over three years. That's something to think about. (Side note: I can't believe Berk's CoA is higher than Columbia's. And I can't believe Columbia's is higher than NYU; your rent should be way higher.)

IF you want East Coast ( like me) then Penn
If you want West Coast then Berkeley.
If you dont care- then visit both schools, or go by the one that offers you the most money.

I'm in at Berkeley, but it would be a tough choice if I get accepted to this joint program. Berkeley is still my top choice because I want CA, but the JD/MBE is incredibly appealing.

No one really gives a sh*t about a masters from Penn unless it's from Wharton.r6_philly wrote:I am surprised to read people would choose Penn prestige over Berkeley. But I want tech law, and I already will have a Penn degree. So is Penn for west coast better than Berkeley for east coast?

That's a professional degree, not a masters.glewz wrote:DreamShake wrote:You revived this thread just to say that...??jmoney wrote:No one really gives a sh*t about a masters from Penn unless it's from Wharton.r6_philly wrote:I am surprised to read people would choose Penn prestige over Berkeley. FWIW, my masters is a professional masters. As long as it hold value for me, it's all worthwhile. It has been proven valuable before I ever started the program ... so people can hate. It also makes my kids legacy at Penn which is probably worth more than the little bit of tuition I am payingHeavenWood wrote:

I wasn't knocking your degree, r6, just informing glewz that an MD is professional degree. I'm sure you had a very good reason for pursuing a masters before law school.r6_philly wrote:FWIW, my masters is a professional masters. As long as it hold value for me, it's all worthwhile. It's really funny (ok not) for people to downplay/disrespect things they don't have. People are too insecure.

It's an objective standard--seriously, no one cares about your degree. I don't disagree with subjective statements about your own self-worth, you're entitled to your own opinion. I'm happy for you, but please don't come to Stanford either. Go to Penn, Chicago or Harvard--it's more of a "cultural" fit for you.r6_philly wrote:Says the guy who doesn't have one to the guy who has one.jmoney wrote:No one really gives a sh*t about a masters from Penn unless it's from Wharton.r6_philly wrote:I am surprised to read people would choose Penn prestige over Berkeley. What kind of cultural fit can you glean from a few Internet posts? Please don't be happy for me, anyone who chose to use "money" in their username and make simpleton statements like you would dilute my worth as a person by association.jmoney wrote: It's an objective standard--seriously, no one cares. Objective standard? I do care, and I know of at least one other person, so therefore your statement is false. I hope you don't pretend to go to Stanford because you are making it look bad, by association.

Seriously though, this is how you respond? By talking about all of the money you make? You're talking about people being insecure and then you get bent out of shape when some dude on the internet doesn't care about a degree that you happen to hold? I really hope you get into Stanford.r6_philly wrote:Says the guy who doesn't have one to the guy who has one.jmoney wrote:No one really gives a sh*t about a masters from Penn unless it's from Wharton.r6_philly wrote:I am surprised to read people would choose Penn prestige over Berkeley. Penn. Boalt has worse biglaw placement and I don't like the East Bay. Plus, I think Boalt is the most expensive t-14. Something like 220k+ for sticker. I'm not lying when I say COL is almost up to par with Manhattan's. (I've lived in the Bay and NYC.)

I'm surprised either of you are in contention at any of the above-named schools.r6_philly wrote:What kind of cultural fit can you glean from a few Internet posts? FWIW, I go to Penn undergrad and would pick Boalt over Penn Law in a heartbeat.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
