There was a fantastic ATL post a while back about a guy who did a similar thing with a cover letter. He started by saying something about how it's more honest (okay, I don't recall the exact set up) to let others speak of his qualifications. It went something like "Skadden believes that I have excellent credentials; Ropes and Gray found my experience impressive". . . . and he went on and on quoting tripe from rejection letters. It was awesome. If I were on the hiring committee, I'd have lobbied for the kid.

Dear Mr. XXXXXXX

I was delighted to hear about your willingness to grant me admission to XXXXXXXXXXXX. As you might imagine, I have had an unusually high volume of mail from various institutions, and while I have reviewed the various pamphlets you were so kind to send me, as well as the information on your website, I regret that I will be unable to accept admission to your school at this time. I congratulate you on your decision to teach law, and I wish you the best with your other applicants. Have a wonderful day!
