@Chingwoo, anyone applying 12/1 is still generally going to have to show first semester grades before getting hired, or at least my friends at other T14s that got 1L SAs had to. You apply 12/1 just so that you get your app in, and again, there are usually quick deadlines.LawsRUs wrote:Question for Scotti et al--
(Sorry for intruding, but I don't know anyone else who got 1L SA.)
If you applied on 12/1 and if you did get a 1L SA (which you did obv.), BUT say you had gotten bad grades in your 1L year, is it better to try to trade down at OCI in August to a firm that has a more realistic chance of giving you an offer at a job after graduation?
Also is LGI still a student here? He's not planning to transfer? (Sorry if this has been mentioned itt already.)
@Laws you shouldn't trade down, no. Fwiw more 1L SAs on average actually make you go through the recruiting process again, i.e. most of the diversity programs specifically say in the application that you are not directly considered for a 2L offer and would have to interview again. Granted, doing a 1L SA at the firm can really only help you and you should be good if you want to stay at the firm granted you don't fuck up too much over the summer. Also for firms that do give offers for their 1Ls to return, depending on the timing, you may have to do OCI even if you want to stay at your firm depending on when the firm gives out offers. You don't want to assume you're getting an offer and then skip OCI, only to not receive an offer and miss out on OCI. As for grade drops, unless you drop from something like top 5% to median I don't think it's much of a problem when it comes to offers, even if you're just a 1L hoping for a 2L offer then full time offer after that. Granted I'm in a bit of a unique situation, but I updated my firm with my spring grades after receiving/accepting a 2L offer, and my grades dropped a bit and it's not an issue and it won't come up in a year when they're looking at making the full time offer.
