Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
I am on it and it has been fine. I haven't used it much though. For students it is affordable but if you want to add family members, the price really jumps up. Fwiw, I could not find an Obamacare plan that qualified under WashU's requirements. The WashU office shot down every plan I could find.valen wrote:On a completely unrelated note - does anyone have experience with the wash u health insurance plan? I'm wondering if I should go with that or purchase private insurance. I'm too old to be on either parent's.

Quick question about orientation: how helpful/necessary is it to attend? Should we be there for the full week of orientation? What kind of events take place? Thanks!

It's essentially a really nice discount plan. You'll almost always have a co-pay for every visit/medication that you may need, but it's typically not a big one. That being said, WashU's health insurance plan was my first experience with insurance, so I have nothing to compare it to. Being an uninsured Latino in America is so commonplace, I know.futago wrote:I am on it and it has been fine. I haven't used it much though. They'll say it's mandatory, but it really isn't. Go the day that they're taking the composite photo. It looks nice on linkedin. Otherwise, it just stressed me out, and made me realize that my class was replete with gunners.ek5dn wrote:Quick question about orientation: how helpful/necessary is it to attend? +1. I skipped 95% of the orientation and was fine. In retrospect, I should have attended a few of the sessions that gave out info but...Jmart082 wrote:They'll say it's mandatory, but it really isn't. eta - pro tip: sit in the overflow room if possible, you'll avoid getting called on.
@Jmart: Where did you get your photo? I took the individual one but never saw a copy of it.

Use your WUSTL key to log in. FYI: It went up Aug. 6th last year, so there's probably no info available yet. Wait for an email for Dean Walsh.

it's probably a little helpful in terms of getting to know your classmates, but i can't speak to anything else because i didn't show up. so not necessary, i think.ek5dn wrote:Quick question about orientation: how helpful/necessary is it to attend? yeah like everyone said above, really not that helpful. BUT a lot of us who were in stl went out like, almost every night (and also the few weeks before) which was super fun and a good chance to get to know people. i'd guess something similar would happen every yearek5dn wrote:Quick question about orientation: how helpful/necessary is it to attend? Yeah I'd definitely make sure you move to STL early so you can do this, slash just get acclimated/adjusted before you start class.lososos wrote:yeah like everyone said above, really not that helpful. This was my plan until I found out my apartment isn't available until the 15th. You should still have a solid week or so. No worries.TetrisBlock wrote:This was my plan until I found out my apartment isn't available until the 15th. TLDR; law school is way easier than you think and it's all self-manufactured stress and work. You don't need to read and, depending on your study style, can boil down to a month and a half or so of solid work a semester plus a few weekends for writing assignments.Jmart082 wrote:Nice save.scottidsntknow wrote:Jmart082 wrote:You should still have a solidweek2 months or so. I think you're already well acquainted with my thoughts on this dead horse, Scotti. I will agree with the mass hysteria aspect of it, though. There's actually something to writing an exam, though. Don't ask me what that may be. GTM never did me much good, and I read it twice.scottidsntknow wrote:TLDR; law school is way easier than you think and it's all self-manufactured stress and work. Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
Can you guys give us a roadmap of the post-1L summer?
From what I have read...
Journal roster/grades come out mid-June.
OCI bidding and off-campus interview applications randomly come out late June through September.
How do you make sure you do not double apply (mass mail and through Wash U)?

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
I realize that applying to firms and colleges are different, but I was thinking along the lines of how it would be silly to fill out an individual college's application and the Common App.
Cool, mass-mailing before firms reveal whether they are recruiting could open up bids.

Yeah I mean you've got the road map down mostly.legit wrote:Can you guys give us a roadmap of the post-1L summer?

You'd mass mail in early or mid July. You'll find out in July what bids you got, and then most of the OCI programs are in August.
If you really crushed first semester and mass mail for 1L SAs, some firms will ding you but then give you a straight to CB invitation, so you could have that in July, but obviously not something you should expect. I've also had other friends, from other schools fwiw, that have already had screeners from mass mailing, generally in secondary markets though so far.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
