Opinion question: I will be heading to Cambridge next week for the Kennedy School's New Admit Day (MPP/ JD dual degree here). I know HLS does not want LOCI or to be frequently bothered...I already told them I was a Kennedy School admit and that I hoped to do the joint degree with HLS, and they said they would "definitely add it" to my file.
Do I let HLS know I will be in town, on campus? I'm a no JS1 waiter...I recognize it's a long shot at this point, but I also haven't been dinged yet. I also spoke to some dual degree students in the fall who said they thought Harvard was trying to expand the number of students in the dual degree program, so I feel like it can't hurt to remind them I've been admitted to HKS.
Thoughts?
I went to visit a couple of weeks ago from NYC, and I was summarily given some self-guided tour materials and sent on my (not so) merry way. That being said, they know I was there, because I sent them a follow-up email. (I actually heard JS herself on the phone outside the office, and I resisted walking up to her, because I know it's against policy to meet prospective students in that context). At the very least it will help prevent you from being dinged because of yield protection. They will see that you are interested enough to make the trip and to visit the office.
Perhaps you should sit in on some classes and talk to some students and professors while you're there. I did so, and it got me really excited and hopeful that I'll be accepted. And definitely mention that you were accepted into Kennedy! They will still consider you on your law-school merits, but it will show them that you truly have plans to be in Boston and you are worth investing in (i.e. accepting you). That's my opinion.
