He didn't speak of holds specifically. Are holds decisions in themselves or just a decision to put off deciding until later?

Interesting. I called earlier today and the person with whom I spoke said by end of april....
explanation:
Your person was general staff, so they gave a vague answer, the man was Johann, who knows what's up, so he was more specific

If I may dip into the realm of useless speculation and unreliable paranoia. The man who answered the phone seemed to be a bit in a hurry (as if he had a lot of work to do and so went straight to the point). Also, there was some background noise, as if people were discussing something. The chat was very brief.

Had a sit-down with Johann, who told me that they'll begin taking a look at the hold pile at the beginning of next week, but we shouldn't expect anything until after the initial scholly deadline of 4/12. In other words, it's going to be at least another 2-3 weeks before we can reasonably expect them to decide on us.

He was clear to note that they go in fully intending to utilize the hold list, and that while the ding/waitlist decisions would be more plentiful, there are usually some admits.

Your are a gentleman and a scholar.

BTW, someone should do a most interesting man in the world meme with Johann's Mr. Miyagi twitter photo. I don't have the skillz for that.

I pulled a thorn from the Pope's butt, and he granted me one wish. After wishing for a sit-down with Johann, I belatedly realized I should have just asked for admission to Northwestern. Oh well, live and learn.

In all seriousness, I e-mailed the admissions office after my held status and asked if he was free on a given day. Lo and behold, there was a 30-minute window of free time in his schedule, and so they penciled me in. I'm pretty sure I just got extraordinarily lucky, because I know he's swamped as all hell this time of year, and I might have just caught a freak hole in his calendar.

I spoke with him in his office. I saw the Twitter'd Post-It notes. It was glorious. I was tempted to steal them, but realized that might affect my chances of admission.

I reeeeeeeally want to go to Northwestern, so you can imagine I was quite nervous about meeting the big cheese. But he was really friendly (more than he had to be given his busy schedule) and approachable.

"I don't always admit from the hold list, but when I do... Its not you." sort of thing.

Hahaha. That sounds awesome. So you must live in Chicago right?
Anyway, I love NU too and want to get in soooobad its not even funny. But in all reality, I'll probably get dinged in the next couple of weeks and will surely miss these shenanigans in the dreary and uptight law school I'll be forced to attend instead.

So ASW is business casual? No jeans?

Just want to make sure I'm not about to pack things that would make me overdressed. I've only been to Michigan's ASW and that was very casual- most everyone wore jeans.

I actually googled that as soon as I read it in their A-Z handout. According to wikipedia, "business casual" includes jeans in academic settings.

Jeans will be fine, especially with a non-tshirt on top. Polo, oxford, Henley, whatever guys do besides t-shirts.

So if I get a side-eye from any of the staff/students, can I pull out my phone and show them the wiki article as proof?

So is it safe to assume from Johann's tweet that they're gonna serve crab legs??

also i am so embarassed to say that i thought that johann's twitter pic was a self-tar, i never clicked on it and realized it was mr. miyagi...

i don't know whether to be relieved I figured this out now and didn't spend all of ASW trying to find Mr. Miyagi, or embarrassed that it took me this long to figure that out. Or more embarrassed that I'm posting this here...
