i'm considering expressing interest in remaining on the list, so that they will accept me, and then i will withdraw. that way they cannot use me to game their matriculant rate. super sketchy and a huge turn-off.

It's a bit sad that Georgetown has to resort to gaming their matriculant rate. I guess they're tired of being at the bottom of the T-14 club.bob77 wrote:like it would be as petty as what they are doing.Flips88 wrote:You'll show them!...bob77 wrote:preferred wait list via e-mail.

Re: GULC Waiting Thread
A couple of questions:
1) Does GULC have a waitlist that is not called "preferred" waitlist? It seems silly that there would be two—preferred and standard—but it also seems silly that they'd just have one and call it "preferred." I'm not sure which silly thing is more likely.
2) Does everybody's email say, "The Committee has designated you as part of a small select group within the Preferred Waiting List that will be given priority as spaces open up in the entering class"?
Because that makes it seem like they're calling you doubly special: you're in the preferred rather than the ordinary waitlist; and even within the preferred waiting list you are part of a "small select group" with priority.
So: is there any non-preferred waitlist? Or anybody on the "preferred" waitlist who isn't in the "small select group" within it?

4th update today. No ASW, no ding, no waitlist, preferred or otherwise. I'm holding onto a last shred of hope.

1. It would seem so, but mine said preferred so I can't confirm anything.somewhere wrote:A couple of questions:

2. My email also says that. If this line actually has any significance, perhaps they're sending out bait to test for real interest in Georgetown.

Yeah, this law school admissions stuff is pretty mysterious.bhan87 wrote:1. It would seem so, but mine said preferred so I can't confirm anything.somewhere wrote:A couple of questions:

I know it's stupid but I'm having fun imagining members of the admissions committee shouting at each other across the table about my application and whether or not to admit me. Numbers camp on one side vs. those who like my softs.

preferred waitlist after an interview last week
Is this the first year they've done the preferred thing? Anyone know what the chances are of actually getting off it? Better than a regular waitlist?

FWIW, I'm pretty sure from browsing through the ding bar that there is a regular waitlist.

wow, cognitive dissonance much? sorry if i came off as snarky, but i don't think it's unreasonable to be offended. how are people supposed to make informed decisions if schools are doing this sort of thing (i.e., tripping over themselves to perpetuate the us news rankings)?ArchRoark wrote:bob77 wrote:like it would be as petty as what they are doing.Flips88 wrote:You'll show them!...bob77 wrote:preferred wait list via e-mail.

Re: GULC Waiting Thread
not even sure where to begin. first of all, "i'm considering expressing interest in remaining on the list, so that they will accept me" is pretty presumptuous. second, you do realize that yield protection is better for applicants, right? if georgetown just admitted everyone they wanted to attend, with no regard for whether that candidate was likely to accept the offer, they would have to waitlist more applicants who are likely to be admitted, because class size is limited. or, the more fucked up option, they risk having to reneg on admissions decisions or overcrowd their class. you're effectively saying that candidates who don't have HYSCCN numbers should have to wait longer for their admissions decisions (and have to waste money on seat deposits at backup schools) so that you can get the satisfaction of rejecting an offer of admission from georgetown (probably on April 1st, when you submit your deposit to NYU or wherever). awesome. i'm glad you value yourself so highly.bob77 wrote:wow, cognitive dissonance much? sorry if i came off as snarky, but i don't think it's unreasonable to be offended. how are people supposed to make informed decisions if schools are doing this sort of thing (i.e., tripping over themselves to perpetuate the us news rankings)?
EDIT: not to mention blatantly manipulating data
the downside to yield protection? overqualified applicants who get waitlisted at a school they really want to attend have to write a LOCI to get admitted. cry me a river.

Updated to 2/9 and then to 2/11.
Crazy story behind it, but basically my interview comments came through and hopefully the next update will mean a decision! (accept me, please!)
