With a 75K scholly offer from Chicago, this is really going to make decisions hard. Any thoughts on Chicago with $ vs Columbia?

They are essentially peer schools. Columbia places slightly better into BigLaw (but not significantly). Chicago places better into clerkships (significantly). About the same in academia, at this point, though Chicago has historically been better. Columbia has a better LRAP for PI.

Definitely Chicago unless you have an attachment to CLS for some reason.

As a proud, patriotic Canadian I was completely detached from Kiprusoff during the olympics. I was hoping he got lit up in the relegation round and could rest for the rest of the olympics... make him hungrier when he gets back to playing for the Flames.

Well, he whined before the Olympics, saying he wouldn't play for Finland unless he was named the starter. The Finns gave in to his demands and Kiprusoff proceeded to give up 4 goals in the first 7 shots of the semifinal game against the Americans. He then pulled himself. Finland did win the bronze, however.

Also, Sidney Crosby definitely got laid last night.

I submitted my application to Columbia in October, so to only recieve an admission offer now makes it seem like I was a border-line candidate, rather than an auto-admit. Does CLS give merit aid to borderline admits?

I'm not sure about this, but I recall reading that CLS's "need-based aid" is not purely need based. IIRC, Columbia appears to take merit-based attributes (like LSAT scores) into account when doling out aid in March and April. That's what a few people claimed last cycle. If anyone can confirm this, please weigh in.

My decision was mailed to me, but it was sent back because they had the wrong address. They resent it today, but they wouldn't tell me what it said. Any ideas? Thanks

I remember reading that people were getting decisions via snail mail (admit and reject). Maybe I got my decision via email because I am an international student?

I have read the same thing on this TLS from time to time.

From CLS site "Columbia Law School awards grant assistance primarily on the basis of demonstrated financial need. However, there are a number of fellowships not based on financial need that are awarded by the Admissions Office at the time an applicant is admitted to the Law School. There is no separate application for these fellowships."


They wrote "primarily" on need-based aid so they seem to have left themselves a little wiggle room for considering merit.

The status checker page says all decisions are mailed. I assume that means snail mail, because it'd be silly to pay for all the paper and postage to reject people, and not spend any money on the ones they want.
