Best piece of advice is to get in with Tamanaha if you are so lucky, but it looks like he's not teaching first semester.

Deans fellowship is basically at their discretion from what I could tell. Not limited or anything.

Still waiting. I've sent them LOCI, and they don't even reply to me...it upsets me a lot.

They sent out a batch of rejections from the waitlist last week. So hopefully that means good things for y'all that haven't heard yet :)

If you're on the waitlist, it's probably in your best interest to retake. Getting into WUSTL may be an accomplishment, but the school is not worth sticker or close to it.

Unless your parents are wealthy and you want to rebel against them for making your life miserable by needlessly spending a ton of their money. But failing that, yeah, paying sticker here is a very bad idea.

Guess it is! Actually they have just replied to my LOCI sent on June 10th. Even though it is a delayed "put this into your file" email, I feel much better. Thanks!

Only useful for exams. I had some friends where they would get together regularly to discuss cases and concepts and shit the whole semester, but this is all unnecessary. Sure, they were more prepared for class, but you honestly don't need to be that prepared and after your first cold call, you really shouldn't care about this.

Once you get into exam prep mode, they can be very helpful. The biggest thing is doing practice exams with your study group and going over them together. It's helpful to see how other people work through things, and because these exams are generally issue spotters, other people will spot things that you didn't. Obviously you can also work on outlines and other things together which help as well, but the real value of a study group is going over PTs.

When going over PTs as a group, were you able to tell who was going to do well on the actual exam in most cases?

Kind of. But you don't have to have a study group full of geniuses and you also won't know first semester who is going to do well. Just seeing how someone else approaches something is helpful, and you can adjust yourself from there.

Second semester I didn't really do the whole study group thing since I was confident I knew what I was doing/how to write a good exam and that generally was fine as well, so I mean you really can't go wrong.

Besides seeing Career Services on November 1st and the HLS samples online, what other resources did you use for your resume and cover letter?

No. Most of their outlines suck and are available for free elsewhere.

Re: study groups: I don't disagree with Scotti but I think different things work for different people. Some may be better off on their own, some may be better off in a study group. You have to figure out what works for you. I don't think it's a one size fits all where saying "yes do a study group" or "no don't join one" is going to be correct for everyone.

I do agree that PT's are by far the best thing you can do to get you ready for exams. That and finding out what each prof wants to see on an exam. They will all tell you what they want, but there are other things they don't tell you, probably because they don't even realize they favor these things. Find people who have done well in the class and try to get as much specific advice about what the prof wants on an exam as you can.

Look I hate to say this, but the CSO gives really poor advice on resumes and cover letters. Find classmates that have had real jobs or profs to reveiw these for you. Seriously, just skip letting CSO reveiw them. Complete waste of time.

There are two of them that are worth seeing and the rest just aren't IMO. PM if you want who is worth seeing, I'm not putting it here.

This is the single most important piece of advice. Profs teach the same classes year after year, with similar exams. People before you have already figured these profs out and crushed their exams. Find these people and follow them.

don't start meeting early in the semester, especially your first one. it's pointless and generally a waste of time because no one knows what they're doing. they can be more helpful closer to exams if you're going over practice tests.

also, don't have a weird secret exclusive group with a buy-in, and don't anonymously harass your classmates who decide not to join your study group. it's nagl

i second the CSO-is-useless sentiment. some of them are also pretty cold and uppity. you're better off asking an upperclassman who did well/got a great 1L gig or biglaw

also, you can crush it without attending class for some profs. doing all the reading is flame.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
